What you'll do
Design and implement scalable web applications using modern frameworks and programming languages to support Oscar's digital health ecosystem. Build reusable components and shared libraries that accelerate development across the engineering team and reduce time-to-market for new features. Write clean, well-tested code with consistent attention to performance and maintainability standards to ensure long-term product stability. Participate in code reviews to ensure quality and share knowledge with fellow engineers, fostering a culture of collective ownership and continuous improvement. Collaborate with product and design teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications, ensuring alignment between user needs and technical execution. Debug and resolve issues in production environments to maintain platform reliability and uptime, utilizing monitoring tools and incident response practices. Contribute to architectural decisions that shape the long-term direction of the platform, evaluating tradeoffs and proposing sustainable solutions. Mentor junior engineers through pairing sessions and constructive, actionable feedback on their work to elevate the overall skill level of the team. Optimize existing systems for speed, scalability, and improved user experience across the product, focusing on key metrics that reflect customer satisfaction. Stay informed about emerging technologies and evaluate their applicability to Oscar Health products, conducting experiments to validate new approaches. Communicate progress and technical tradeoffs clearly during team meetings and planning sessions to ensure transparency and shared understanding. Own the full lifecycle of features including monitoring, alerting, and post-release retrospectives to drive learning and incremental enhancements to the product.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience building fullstack applications with both frontend and backend technologies, showing a deep understanding of how these layers interact. Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language and its associated framework, allowing you to write idiomatic and maintainable code. Familiarity with RESTful API design and implementation practices for service communication, ensuring robust and predictable interfaces. Experience working with relational databases and writing efficient, optimized queries to handle complex data requirements at scale. Solid understanding of version control workflows, particularly Git-based collaboration and branching strategies, to support a streamlined development process. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, agile development environment with regular iterations, adapting quickly to shifting priorities and requirements. Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field from an accredited institution, providing a foundational knowledge of core computing principles. Several years of professional software engineering experience at the senior level or equivalent, demonstrating consistent delivery of high-quality software solutions.

Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud for deploying services, which would support scalability and resilience goals. Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools for managing workloads, aiding in deployment consistency and environment parity.
