About the role
You will own the end-to-end execution of market research initiatives that directly inform the insurance product roadmap at Oscar. This role requires you to act as the primary voice of the market, synthesizing complex data into clear narratives that guide strategic product decisions. You will design and conduct studies to uncover evolving consumer behaviors, unmet needs, and emerging trends within the healthcare landscape. A core part of this position is analyzing competitor positioning and product performance to identify gaps and opportunities for Oscar's portfolio. You will be responsible for translating ambiguous business questions into robust research methodologies and actionable insights. This role demands intellectual rigor, strong analytical capabilities, and comfort working with ambiguous, large-scale datasets. You will report directly into the Vice President, Insurance Product Innovation and Development, ensuring alignment with high-level strategic objectives. Ultimately, your work will enable Oscar to build health insurance products that behave like a doctor in the family by grounding decisions in deep market understanding.

What you'll do
Conduct primary and secondary market research to support insurance product strategy and market-level decision-making.
Analyze healthcare market trends, consumer behaviors, competitor activity, and product performance to identify meaningful patterns and shifts.
Develop market research summaries, dashboards, presentations, and strategic insights tailored for cross-functional company partners.
Support competitive intelligence through systematic data gathering, analysis, and ongoing monitoring of industry players.
Help develop market analyses, consumer segmentation, and opportunity assessments to uncover new areas for product innovation.
Partner with team members across functions to support research requests, strategic programs, and time-sensitive business needs.
Compile and maintain comprehensive market intelligence databases, reports, and recurring deliverables to ensure institutional knowledge is current.
Translate complex quantitative and qualitative data into concise, relevant insights that resonate with business audiences and stakeholders.
Support qualitative and quantitative research projects, including designing surveys, conducting interviews, and executing market assessments.
Contribute to continuous improvement of research methodologies, tools, and reporting processes to enhance efficiency and impact.
Ensure strict compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies during the execution of research activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support the broader objectives of the Insurance Product Development team.
Maintain a high standard of accuracy, documentation, and rigor in all research outputs to support credible decision-making.
Proactively identify research gaps and recommend targeted studies to address evolving business priorities and market dynamics.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, economics, healthcare administration, public health, or related field is required.
4+ years of experience in market analytics, competitive intelligence, healthcare strategy, or a closely related field is mandatory.
You must demonstrate a willingness to summarize complex information into clear, actionable business recommendations.
Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time for research purposes, meetings, and industry events is required.
You must reside in one of the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, or Virginia. Note, this list of states is subject to change.

Familiarity with ACA and QHP markets, including current healthcare industry trends, is regarded as a bonus for this role.
Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies is viewed as an advantage in supporting diverse project needs.
Analytical experience with the skills to translate hard data into insight and action is highly valued for success in this position.
Proficiency with Excel and SQL is required to manipulate and analyze data, while experience with R and/or Python is beneficial for advanced analysis.
Willingness to guide to outcomes, work with large datasets, and distill analyses into relevant business insights with a structured and systematic thought process is preferred.
Experience working cross-functionally within large matrixed organizations is regarded as a bonus for navigating complex stakeholder environments.
