What you'll do
Analyze regional market dynamics, competitor behavior, and industry shifts to uncover new opportunities and potential threats to Oscar's value proposition.
Perform in-depth analysis of integrated claims and operational datasets, including medical, pharmacy, lab, and authorization information, to isolate the primary cost and trend drivers within markets.
Provide proactive financial guidance on emerging trends, articulating potential impacts on revenue, utilization, and member affordability.
Assess the performance and effectiveness of existing market-level programs, determining how they align with and support the central affordability strategy.
Construct retrospective studies that measure the actual financial and clinical outcomes of implemented initiatives, comparing results against original projections and hypotheses.
Design and build scalable, repeatable analytical processes and frameworks that can be applied consistently across multiple market areas.
Prepare and present comprehensive materials for market finance review meetings, facilitating discussion and managing follow-up actions with market leadership.
Develop and institutionalize best practices related to analytics, automation, and documentation, specifically supporting department goals around innovation, AI adoption, and tooling enhancements.
Ensure strict compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies in every analysis and report delivered.
Take on additional duties and projects as assigned to support the broader objectives of the Medical Economics team.
Requirements
Hold a college degree in a STEM field, such as Economics, Actuarial Science, Health Economics, Biostatistics, Health Informatics, or Health Services Research.
Possess a minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in quantitative analysis, demonstrating a track record of handling complex data sets.
Maintain compliance with all Oscar policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements relevant to the role.
Demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a structured framework while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Commit to adhering to Oscar's standards for accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in all analytical outputs.
Be capable of working the designated hybrid schedule, which includes three days in the New York City office each week.
Be available on Thursdays, which are mandatory in-office days for team meetings and scheduled events.
Be willing to engage in continuous learning to keep pace with changes in health insurance markets, regulations, and analytical methodologies.
Be prepared to occasionally work additional hours during peak business cycles or critical project deadlines as needed.
Nice to have
Possess an Associate or Fellow credential from the Society of Actuaries (SOA), or be actively pursuing the designation.
Exhibit exceptional communication, collaboration, and relationship-building abilities when working with cross-functional teams.
Show a strong understanding of health insurance concepts, data sources, and the nuanced operational environment.
Demonstrate advanced proficiency using SQL, R, and/or Python to query, manipulate, and analyze large datasets efficiently.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, and annual performance bonuses.
The work location is our New York City office, operating under a hybrid schedule with three required in-office days per week.
Thursday is a mandatory in-office day for team meetings and events.
The base pay range for this role is $123,372 to $161,925 per year.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for this role.
