About the role
Orb is seeking a leader to guide our engineering organization as we scale our revenue design platform within the Adyen ecosystem. You will oversee a 30 person team focused on the high-stakes domain of billing infrastructure, where precision and performance are critical to our product. In this role, you will own the end to end delivery of our billing platform, ensuring that our systems are reliable, performant, and aligned with the business needs of a global enterprise. You will be responsible for translating complex product requirements into robust technical solutions that can scale to meet demanding commercial objectives. The position requires a strategic thinker who can balance architectural excellence with the urgency of shipping features that directly impact revenue. You will work closely with cross functional partners to define the technical boundaries and opportunities that shape our monetization capabilities. Ultimately, your leadership will ensure that our engineering organization delivers sustainable growth while maintaining the highest standards of quality and security.

What you'll do
- Mentor engineering managers and senior individual contributors to foster career development and clear growth paths.
- Direct talent acquisition and retention strategies as we expand our engineering presence across multiple locations.
- Define technical strategy by participating in high-level architectural discussions and ensuring systems prioritize correctness and scale.
- Collaborate with the VP of Product and go-to-market teams to influence monetization and competitive strategy.
- Implement efficient, scalable technical processes that support rapid growth without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Oversee the design and implementation of billing features, ensuring that usage based pricing models are accurate and performant.
- Drive the adoption of best in class development practices to improve code quality, testing standards, and deployment reliability.
- Partner with data teams to optimize data pipelines and ensure that analytics reflect true business performance.
- Lead incident response efforts and establish postmortem processes to prevent future production issues.
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies that can provide a competitive advantage in the billing infrastructure space.
- Coordinate with security and compliance teams to ensure that all systems meet regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate cross team alignment to ensure that engineering initiatives support overall business goals.
- Provide clear communication to both technical and non technical stakeholders regarding project status and technical tradeoffs.
- Guide the technical roadmap to ensure that platform investments deliver long term value and flexibility.
Requirements
- 10+ years of engineering experience, including several years managing engineering organizations.
- Background in infrastructure, platform, or developer tools with expertise in distributed systems and data architecture.
- Experience scaling both teams and technical systems through periods of significant growth.
- Demonstrated interest in the billing and monetization domain, specifically usage based pricing models.
- Proven ability to build leadership benches and manage teams across multiple office locations.
- Ability to partner effectively with product and sales leadership to drive business outcomes.
- Strong understanding of software development life cycles and agile methodologies.
- Willingness to adhere to company policies and processes that support a high performing engineering culture.

Practical notes
- Hybrid work policy requires 3 days per week in the office for residents of the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, and Amsterdam. Remote employees must travel to the office once per quarter.
- Some domestic and international travel is required.
