About the role
Onebrief is building a new category of software for military planning and operational coordination, and this role sits at the intersection of that mission and the gaming technologies that power it. You will own the validation of core simulation systems by executing structured tests that reveal how well AtomEngine handles complex, evolving scenarios. This position requires you to act as the critical eyes and ears of the development process, ensuring that every feature behaves as intended before it reaches war-gaming analysts. You will own the detailed documentation of every anomaly you uncover, turning raw observations into clear, repeatable evidence that helps engineers isolate root causes quickly. The work demands intellectual curiosity, disciplined note-taking, and the patience to methodically reproduce issues under varying conditions. You will collaborate closely with engineers and test leadership to define what success looks like for each testing objective. Ultimately, your work will directly influence the stability and reliability of a platform used for high-stakes planning and decision-making.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Learn and master AtomEngine to create and execute war-game scenarios in both single-player and multiplayer environments.
- Identify bugs, provide actionable feedback, and recommend improvements to AtomEngine and Battle Road's internal processes.
- Perform a variety of testing tasks in a timely, efficient, and thorough manner.
- Execute load testing, stability testing, functionality testing, and other testing activities as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members to quickly learn new systems, remove blockers, and provide actionable test results in real time.
- Adapt quickly to fast-moving workflows, shifting priorities, and evolving deliverables.
- Partner with test leadership to create and maintain clear, detailed test plans and testing procedures.
- Test AtomEngine's Developer Mod Kit by identifying and reporting bugs, validating functionality, and providing feedback to improve the user experience.
- Test AtomEngine with and without customer-created Mods, documenting performance impacts, compatibility issues, and overall functionality changes.
Requirements
- Experience as a game development hobbyist or technical tinkerer, including scripting or visual scripting experience with tools such as Unreal Blueprints and, preferably, GDScript.
- Familiarity with PC gaming hardware.
- Strong organizational skills and a high degree of self-direction.
- Extensive experience in video game quality assurance across multiple titles, with a strong understanding of QA principles, methodologies, and processes.
- Proven proficiency with industry-standard testing tools and software, including version control systems, bug tracking systems, and test management tools.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and prioritize testing activities based on project requirements and objectives.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and asynchronously while providing regular progress updates and test results to test leadership.
- Willingness and ability to obtain a Security Clearance.
- Due to federal contract requirements, U.S. citizenship is required for this position.

Nice to have
- Experience with modding tools and workflows, including creating or modifying game content using SDKs or runtime interfaces.
- Background in simulation or modeling environments where test scenarios must reflect complex, dynamic systems.
- Familiarity with cloud-based development and deployment pipelines that support rapid iteration of engine builds.
- Understanding of performance profiling techniques and tools to measure frame rates, memory usage, and system throughput during intensive simulation runs.
- Experience contributing to open-source projects or collaborative software efforts that require strict version control and rigorous code review.
- Exposure to AI-assisted tooling or workflows that support test generation, scenario discovery, or anomaly detection.
