Technical Solar Expert
Job description
About the role
You will architect and execute the technical validation framework that ensures distributed solar and energy storage systems perform to the rigorous standards our customers and our planet expect. This role places you at the intersection of field engineering, data science, and customer advocacy, where your analysis directly shapes product reliability and long-term asset performance. You will own the design of diagnostic protocols, the interpretation of performance anomalies, and the translation of complex technical findings into clear, actionable insights for both internal teams and external clients. You will collaborate closely with product, operations, and customer success to close the loop between observed field behavior and ongoing product improvements. Your work will establish the technical credibility that underpins every customer promise Omnidian delivers in the distributed energy market. You will be a founding technical leader in Costa Rica, helping to define the standards, processes, and quality bar for our new hub from day one. You will mentor and elevate other engineers by example, creating a culture of precision, curiosity, and rigorous problem-solving. By owning the full diagnostic lifecycle, you will ensure that performance data is trustworthy, decisions are evidence-based, and customer confidence remains at the highest level.
Key facts
What you'll do
Conduct exhaustive site visits to distributed solar and storage installations, performing detailed system-level testing and diagnostics that uncover root causes of performance issues.
Interpret complex performance datasets, inverter logs, and SCADA streams to identify deviations from expected behavior and quantify the financial or operational impact on the asset.
Develop and maintain a structured diagnostic playbook that standardizes how field teams assess system health, document findings, and recommend remediation steps.
Partner with the customer success organization to translate technical findings into compelling narratives that drive retention, expansion, and informed decision-making.
Design and implement automated tests and validation checks that improve field team efficiency, reduce manual rework, and scale diagnostic coverage across the portfolio.
Lead cross-functional investigations when persistent performance issues arise, coordinating with engineering, procurement, and operations to resolve systemic risks.
Champion the use of consistent performance metrics and data quality standards, ensuring that insights derived from field data remain reliable and comparable over time.
Define and track key performance indicators for the solar and storage portfolio, creating dashboards and reports that highlight trends, risks, and opportunities for optimization.
Establish best practices for documentation and knowledge transfer, enabling other teams to replicate your methods and sustain high diagnostic quality without constant supervision.
Act as the technical escalation path for complex cases, providing clear guidance to field technicians and helping to build long-term capability across the local team.
Collaborate with product and data science teams to turn insights from the field into requirements for new monitoring features, improved alerts, and better diagnostic tools.
Support the development of internal training materials that elevate the technical skills of new hires and ensure rapid onboarding aligned with Omnidian's quality standards.
Represent Omnidian's technical brand in interactions with regulators, partners, and customers, demonstrating precision, transparency, and a strong ethical compass.
Contribute directly to the design of our Costa Rica hub, helping to define workflows, quality benchmarks, and the technical culture of the team.
Requirements
You hold a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related technical discipline that provides a strong foundation in energy systems.
You possess a minimum of five years of progressive experience in solar energy, energy storage, or distributed generation operations, with a track record of diagnosing performance issues in the field.
You have a demonstrated history of interpreting inverter data, performance metrics, and testing results to assess system health and drive corrective actions.
You are comfortable working in both office and field environments, willing to travel to project sites as needed to conduct diagnostics and collaborate with on-site crews.
You have hands-on experience with common solar monitoring platforms, data acquisition methods, and diagnostic tools used in the distributed energy sector.
You exhibit strong analytical reasoning, capable of breaking down complex system behavior into clear hypotheses, tests, and conclusions.
You communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally, enabling you to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
You are meticulous about data quality, documentation, and procedural adherence, understanding that small inconsistencies can lead to large misinterpretations in performance analysis.
Nice to have
Experience with energy storage systems, including battery inverters, control strategies, and performance validation for hybrid solar plus storage installations.
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and interconnection standards relevant to distributed solar in Costa Rica or similar markets.
