About the role
The Lead FullStack Software Engineer will join New Relic in Bangalore, India, and take ownership of building and maintaining the company's observability platform. This individual will guide a team of engineers through the complete software development lifecycle, from initial design and prototyping through deployment and ongoing maintenance. What you'll do
Lead the design and implementation of fullstack features across the New Relic observability platform and related services. Mentor and coach a team of software engineers to help them grow their technical skills and career trajectory. Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications, timelines, and prioritized development roadmaps. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that meets the team's quality standards and performance benchmarks. Participate in code reviews to ensure consistency, correctness, and adherence to established engineering practices and conventions. Architect scalable solutions that handle large volumes of telemetry data from customer deployments around the world. Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, working closely with site reliability and customer support teams. Contribute to the definition of engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across the broader organization. Drive continuous improvement by identifying bottlenecks in development workflows and proposing practical, actionable solutions that reduce friction and increase throughput. Represent the engineering team in cross-departmental meetings, sharing progress updates and gathering feedback from stakeholders. Evaluate and adopt new technologies and tools that can improve developer productivity, system reliability, and overall engineering velocity over time. Ensure that delivered features meet security, compliance, and data privacy requirements relevant to the platform and customers.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience leading software engineering teams and driving technical decisions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with measurable outcomes. Strong proficiency in building web applications using modern frontend and backend technologies and established frameworks. Experience designing and deploying distributed systems that are resilient, observable, and performant at significant scale. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in software engineering. Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles applied to real-world production systems. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders. Track record of delivering reliable software products on schedule while maintaining high standards of code quality and engineering discipline. Familiarity with agile development methodologies and collaborative tools commonly used in distributed engineering teams.
Nice to have
Prior experience working with observability or monitoring platforms and a deep understanding of their underlying data models. Contributions to open source projects or a visible, respected presence in the broader developer community. Experience with cloud infrastructure providers and container orchestration platforms for deploying and managing applications. Background in mentoring senior engineers and helping shape the technical direction, architecture, and long-term vision of a product.
Skills & tools
Programming languages commonly used for fullstack development including JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python and their ecosystems. Frontend frameworks and libraries for building interactive, responsive user interfaces in modern web applications. Backend frameworks and RESTful or GraphQL API design patterns for enabling service-to-service communication. Version control systems and collaborative development workflows used across distributed engineering teams on a daily basis to ensure smooth coordination. Database technologies including relational databases and caching layers for efficient application data management and retrieval. CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks that support continuous delivery and reliable software releases.
