Key facts
What you'll do
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to brainstorm and develop innovative materials for next-generation microelectrodes.
- Engage with the microfabrication team to transition concepts from theoretical ideas into tangible hardware solutions.
- Innovate new approaches for electrode-tissue interfaces, aiming to improve sensitivity and enhance the longevity of these interfaces.
- Conduct thorough materials characterization and surface chemistry experiments on prospective materials and implant components.
- Design and construct custom test fixtures to facilitate novel experimental setups and procedures.
- Execute established experimental protocols while also independently devising new experiments as project needs evolve.
- Troubleshoot experimental challenges, iterate on designs, and communicate findings clearly to team members.
- Document research processes and results meticulously to ensure reproducibility and facilitate peer review.
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss project progress, share insights, and brainstorm solutions to complex engineering problems.
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment, adhering to best practices in chemical handling and lab safety protocols.
Requirements
- Proven excellence in a relevant field such as Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Chemistry.
- A minimum of 2 years of academic or industry experience in materials science or related disciplines.
- Strong grasp of the scientific method and fundamental engineering principles, enabling effective problem-solving.
- Exceptional organizational skills with a keen eye for detail, ensuring high-quality results in experimental work.
- Familiarity with safe chemical handling practices and laboratory protocols.
- Excellent communication abilities, thriving in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team setting.
- A proactive attitude towards learning and adapting to new challenges and technologies.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or other computer-aided design (CAD) software for creating detailed engineering drawings.
- Experience with surface characterization techniques such as contact angle measurements, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
- Background in microscopy techniques, enhancing the ability to visualize and analyze materials at the micro and nanoscale.
- Knowledge of electrochemistry and its applications in materials testing and development.
