As an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our work environments are safe and compliant with all relevant regulations.

What you'll do

• Lead and manage environmental health and safety initiatives across our South San Francisco and Fremont facilities, adapting strategies to meet the unique requirements of each location.
• Ensure adherence to all regulatory standards by overseeing facility permits and registrations, as well as coordinating inspections and audits with local, state, and federal authorities.
• Manage the entire lifecycle of hazardous waste at both sites, which includes proper identification, labeling, storage, and final disposal.
• Implement and oversee various environmental programs, such as stormwater management and soil conservation, while ensuring timely preparation and submission of compliance reports.
• Keep abreast of changes in environmental and safety regulations, translating these updates into effective, site-specific programs under the direction of the EHS Lead.
• Collaborate closely with engineers and scientists to maintain safety standards in their operations and assess the risks associated with new and existing chemical substances.
• Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate staff on safety protocols and best practices related to environmental health and safety.
• Analyze incident reports and safety audits to identify trends and areas for improvement, developing strategies to mitigate risks.
• Participate in the development of emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
• Serve as a point of contact for safety-related inquiries and provide guidance to employees on compliance matters.
• Foster a culture of safety within the organization by promoting awareness and encouraging proactive safety measures among all team members.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within a laboratory or industrial setting.
• At least 3 years of experience managing hazardous materials, including acids, bases, and solvents.
• Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory frameworks from local, state, and federal agencies, particularly concerning stormwater management and hazardous waste handling.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated and capable of independent work.
• Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and safety program development.

Nice to have

• Relevant EHS certifications, such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
• A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with facility construction and wastewater treatment operations.
• Knowledge of report preparation for hazardous waste, stormwater, and wastewater discharge compliance.
• Understanding of EHS training programs and safety management practices.
• Technical expertise in chemical handling and safety interactions.
• Experience in creating and implementing workplace safety measures.
• Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

Skills & tools

• Physical capability to lift weights up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often exceeding 10 hours daily.
• Proficiency in climbing stairs and navigating various facility layouts as required.

Expected

Compensation: The projected base salary for this position ranges from $63,000 to $114,400 USD. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience, and educational background. In addition to the base salary, Neuralink offers equity compensation in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) for all full-time employees.
