Staff Product Manager, Core Apps

About the role

NetBox Labs is seeking a Staff Product Manager to deeply own the Core product suite, acting as the primary steward for how NetBox ships as a commercial product while preserving its open source integrity. You will own the open source community presence, data model evolution, Custom Objects, and Asset Lifecycle, ensuring these foundational elements align with commercial and enterprise demands. In this role, you will serve as the critical bridge between Core Engineering, Customer Success, and downstream product teams that build on top of NetBox Core. You will drive the end-to-end ownership model that customers and our business depend on, operating at the intersection of open source community stewardship and commercial product delivery. This position requires influencing cultural and process change within an engineering organization that values both OSS roots and structured product discipline. You will translate enterprise customer signals into durable product decisions while maintaining the technical and community trust that defines NetBox Labs.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Partner with NBC, NBE, and Customer Success teams to plan, communicate, and deliver NetBox Core releases as first-class customers of the platform.
• Champion the NetBox open source community by managing GitHub issue triage, guiding contributor engagement, and shaping release communication for a global practitioner audience.
• Drive principled decisions on data model evolution and the NetBox API surface, balancing backward compatibility, extensibility, and the downstream impact on integrations and automations.
• Own products and features from initial strategy through general availability and post-launch iteration, converting enterprise customer input into scoped and shippable work.
• Engage directly with customers and prospects to uncover how they extend and rely on NetBox Core, transforming those needs into durable product decisions.
• Collaborate with senior product stakeholders on Core platform capabilities such as Designs, Branching, and Changes, contributing to directional strategy without owning every surface.
• Partner with PMs across Assurance, Discovery, Integrations, and Cloud/Enterprise to ensure Core investments enhance the entire product portfolio.
• Contribute to pricing and packaging strategy for Core capabilities, identifying which features create meaningful differentiation across commercial tiers.

Requirements

• Bring 7-10+ years of product management experience in B2B software, with at least 3+ years owning infrastructure, developer tools, or other deeply technical products.
• Demonstrate a track record of driving process or cultural change in engineering teams, understanding that real change requires more than good ideas and sustained follow-through.
• Operate comfortably in a codebase environment, capable of reading pull requests, engaging substantively on technical architecture documents, and holding your own in conversations with engineers.
• Apply strong API instincts, showing deep understanding of REST and GraphQL design principles, versioning tradeoffs, backward compatibility, and what it means to be developer-friendly.
• Think at the data layer as a systems problem, recognizing that a schema decision is a contract and reasoning carefully about how model changes ripple into integrations, automations, and customer extensions.
• Show demonstrated experience with open source products or communities, navigating contributor dynamics, large-scale issue triage, and the trust relationships that separate good OSS product management from poor execution.
• Exercise strong cross-functional influence, aligning engineering, CS, design, and GTM teams without relying on positional authority and being willing to hold a position when you are right.
• Thrive in ambiguity, building structure and clarity where none initially exists while maintaining product integrity and stakeholder confidence.

Nice to have

• Gain hands-on experience as a network engineer, DevOps engineer, or software engineer to better empathize with and communicate with engineering teams.
• Bring familiarity with network infrastructure concepts, including devices, interfaces, IP management, circuit management, and related domains.
