About the role
The Community Engagement Manager serves as the primary steward of the global NetBox ecosystem, operating at the critical intersection of infrastructure expertise, systems thinking, and community growth. This role owns the design, activation, and ongoing optimization of how NetBox Labs connects with a broad community of practitioners, technology leaders, customers, and partners. Rather than acting as the main technical authority, the position focuses on enabling the right voices across engineering, product, and the community to engage authentically and at scale. The hire will establish the listening posts and feedback loops that allow the organization to understand community needs and trends. Success is defined by the ability to build a durable, mutually beneficial relationship between the community and the business. This role has significant impact on how NetBox Labs shows up in the world, strengthening a vibrant and interconnected ecosystem for the long term.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Cultivate, grow, and support NetBox's global community of practitioners, executives, contributors, and partners by identifying daily engagement opportunities across digital platforms including LinkedIn, Reddit, GitHub, Slack, Hacker News, industry Discords, or other forums.
- Proactively monitor community conversations for technical questions and emerging trends, collaborating with internal resources to answer queries directly or escalate product insights to the appropriate teams.
- Build and launch the NetBox Heroes advocate program from the ground up, identifying, onboarding, and empowering community champions to create and share content, speak at events, and support new users.
- Highlight success stories from within the NetBox ecosystem across the company blog, podcast series, community newsletters, webinars, and monthly community meetups (virtual and in-person).
- Collaborate with the broader marketing team to package community insights into impactful stories that build awareness and trust for NetBox and NetBox Labs.
- Lead monthly virtual community calls, owning agenda creation, speaker recruitment, and hosting to maintain consistent and valuable engagement.
- Build and run NetBox's global meetup strategy, including coordinating in-person regional community groups in key cities to foster local connections.
- Work closely with the marketing team to translate community insights into compelling narratives, case studies, and content that reinforce the NetBox brand.
- Partner with Product Marketing, Product Management, and the Chief Product Strategy Officer to ensure consistent messaging and technical accuracy across all external communications.
- Support the executive team in aligning on goals, strategy, and messaging to ensure community initiatives directly support business outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Customer Success, Sales, and Partner teams to co-create and tell joint customer, partner, and user stories that resonate in the market.
- Monitor and analyze community engagement metrics, using data to refine programs, identify high-potential advocates, and demonstrate impact.
- Serve as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex infrastructure concepts into accessible language for diverse audiences.
- Identify and pursue new channels and formats for community interaction, ensuring NetBox remains visible and valuable where practitioners already gather.
Requirements
- Possess 3-5 years of experience in community marketing, developer relations, technical advocacy, or related roles within enterprise technology companies, demonstrating a consistent track record in this domain.
- Bring 2+ years of experience working in a fast-paced startup environment, where you have collaborated cross-functionally with product, engineering, and marketing teams under tight deadlines.
- Show proven experience engaging and supporting technical communities, with a preference for backgrounds in networking, infrastructure, automation, or open-source ecosystems.
- Demonstrate a history of building, scaling, and nurturing community programs, including user groups, ambassador or advocate programs, meetups, or open-source contributor communities.
- Have direct experience with event management, including planning and executing virtual webinars, in-person community meetups, and participating in or supporting conference activities.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences in a professional setting.
- Show comfort engaging daily across online forums and social platforms, maintaining a consistent and positive presence in community spaces.
- Possess a demonstrable knowledge of and passion for community-driven growth principles and supporting practitioners in the infrastructure or networking space.
Nice to have
- Previous work experience in networking or IT infrastructure space and/or high-growth B2B SaaS companies, providing context for the domain challenges NetBox addresses.
- Hands-on technical experience with networking, network engineering, infrastructure automation, or adjacent fields, allowing for more authentic communication with technical audiences without needing to be a senior engineer.
