Software Engineer
Job description
About the role
Neon builds a global payments and e-commerce platform that empowers game publishers to gain independence from app stores. We are looking for a design-oriented engineer to help lead a core work stream and build out our developer-centric infrastructure. You will work across the full stack to create functional, high-quality products that help game creators manage their finances. In this position, you will own the end-to-end execution of critical product features, translating design mockups and ambiguous requirements into robust, production-ready software. You will be responsible for designing systems that balance developer experience with operational reliability at scale. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to ensure that every component you build meets strict standards for performance and security. Ultimately, your work will directly influence how game publishers interact with financial infrastructure on a global level.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and implement client-side interfaces using modern React patterns while maintaining strict TypeScript type safety across the codebase.
- Develop server-side APIs and services with a focus on scalability, observability, and secure transaction handling in a payments environment.
- Partner with product managers, designers, and engineering peers to translate high-level concepts into detailed technical specifications and implementation plans.
- Conduct in-depth code reviews to uphold code quality, share knowledge across the team, and prevent regressions before they reach production.
- Write and maintain comprehensive documentation that clarifies system behavior, API contracts, and integration steps for future engineers.
- Optimize application performance by profiling rendering behavior, reducing bundle sizes, and improving server response times under load.
- Collaborate with designers to ensure that implemented user interfaces match the intended experience and adhere to accessibility and usability best practices.
- Monitor production systems to identify bottlenecks, investigate incidents, and work with backend teams to resolve issues quickly and thoroughly.
- Evaluate new tools, libraries, and frameworks, and propose upgrades or replacements when they provide clear benefits in reliability or developer productivity.
- Contribute to strategic planning sessions by providing technical insights that help shape the roadmap and prioritize technical debt alongside new features.
- Implement automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, to ensure that new changes do not break existing functionality.
- Work closely with finance and product stakeholders to clarify requirements, validate business logic, and ensure that financial calculations are accurate and transparent.
- Maintain a strong security mindset by following best practices for authentication, authorization, data handling, and third-party integrations.
- Act as an on-call participant when needed, helping to triage issues and coordinate responses with the broader engineering team.
Requirements
- Hold a minimum of 1 year of professional software engineering experience in a role where you shipped production software.
- Demonstrate proficiency in full-stack development with a primary focus on React for the frontend and TypeScript for type-safe code.
- Have a proven ability to work on-site at our New York City office on a regular basis, as this role requires close collaboration.
- Show a strong sense of ownership by driving initiatives from start to finish and taking responsibility for the outcomes of your work.
- Exhibit willingness to adapt and learn new technologies as the company grows and as the product stack evolves to meet market needs.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, explaining complex systems in clear and concise terms.
- Collaborate comfortably in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift and agility is essential to success.
- Have experience working with version control systems, code review processes, and continuous integration workflows.
Nice to have
- Experience contributing to financial systems, payment processing, or e-commerce platforms where precision and reliability are critical.
- Familiarity with performance optimization techniques for web applications, including lazy loading, code splitting, and caching strategies.
- Knowledge of modern DevOps practices, such as containerization, infrastructure as code, or deployment pipelines.
- Exposure to gaming platforms, developer tools, or marketplaces where user trust and uptime are top priorities.
