Financial Accountant
Job description
About the role
Financial Accountant Opportunity at Nearwater Capital
Nearwater Capital is actively expanding its Dublin office and seeking a highly organized Financial Accountant to join its Global Accounting and Finance function. This position is central to the firm's daily accounting operations, with responsibilities spanning profit and loss generation to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) statements and regulatory compliance. The role offers significant ownership and impact, as the outputs directly influence capital allocation, risk management, and regulatory adherence. It is ideal for a professional seeking deep responsibility, visibility into modernizing accounting processes, and exposure to complex financial instruments.
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will manage the full accounting cycle for the Dublin entity, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all financial outputs. Key duties include the orchestration of transaction data intake and validation prior to ledger coding. You will be responsible for constructing trial balances and providing critical support in the preparation of IFRS financial statements, with a specific focus on maintaining the integrity of trading account ledgers.
A significant portion of the role involves contributing to regulatory compliance with the Central Bank of Ireland. This includes reviewing and assisting in the preparation of regulatory returns such as FINREP and ICARAP documentation to ensure full compliance. You will also support activities related to capital adequacy assessments, including the preparation of the ICARAP (capital adequacy assessment), Recovery Plans, and Investment Products Templates.
The position requires close partnership with internal stakeholders in Risk, Operations, and Finance to ensure the month-end close is executed on schedule. You will coordinate these activities and assist in the development of budgets and forecasts. As the team transitions to a new accounting infrastructure, you will play a key role in designing, testing, and implementing new workflows and controls. This includes driving process improvements, introducing automation checks, and managing ad hoc requests that arise during peak reporting periods. Maintaining detailed documentation for audit trails and ensuring all controls align with firm policies is essential.
Candidate Profile
Candidates must demonstrate a strong professional background in demanding accounting environments, with a minimum of 2-5+ years of relevant experience. A recognized accounting qualification is mandatory, such as ACA, ACCA, CPA Ireland, or CIMA. Proven experience in Big Four, Hedge Fund, or Investment Banking settings is highly valued by recruiters.
Specific expertise in Class 2 MiFID Investment Firm regulatory reporting is a core requirement. You must have hands-on experience with submissions such as FINREP, IFREP, ICARAP, and MMR to the Central Bank of Ireland. Success in this role requires exceptional time and self-management abilities, allowing you to prioritize multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines without compromising quality.
Strong analytical skills are non-negotiable, particularly the ability to work confidently with large datasets and complex Excel models. Clear, articulate, and persuasive communication is necessary when interacting with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. You must be a collaborative professional who is comfortable building new processes rather than merely maintaining existing ones, bringing rigor and meticulous attention to detail to every deliverable.
What You Will Gain
This role provides a front-row seat to a major evolution in Nearwater Capital's accounting function. You will have direct influence over the design of new workflows and controls that will define the Global Accounting and Finance team's operations. The position offers broad exposure across profit and loss generation, IFRS financial statement preparation, and regulatory reporting submissions.
You will collaborate directly with colleagues across Risk, Finance, Operations, and Compliance, gaining valuable insight into how these functions operate within a dynamic, specialized finance environment. This is a significant opportunity to shape the future of the firm's accounting practices as it continues to grow and expand its presence in key financial hubs.
