What you'll do
- Develop and maintain relationships with a diverse range of carriers to ensure optimal service delivery and cost efficiency.
- Analyze market trends and carrier performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and cost savings.
- Negotiate contracts and rates with carriers, ensuring favorable terms that align with company goals and budgetary constraints.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including operations and sales, to understand shipping needs and align carrier capabilities with customer requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate carrier performance, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement as necessary.
- Implement and manage procurement strategies that enhance the efficiency of the supply chain and reduce operational costs.
- Prepare and present reports on carrier performance, market trends, and procurement strategies to senior management.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and compliance standards to ensure that all procurement activities adhere to legal requirements.
- Participate in industry events and networking opportunities to build relationships and stay informed about market developments.
- Utilize procurement software and tools to streamline processes and maintain accurate records of carrier agreements and performance data.
- Assist in resolving any issues that arise with carriers, ensuring that service disruptions are minimized and addressed promptly.
- Contribute to the development of best practices in carrier procurement and logistics management within the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in carrier procurement or logistics management, preferably within the transportation industry.
- Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of securing favorable contracts and rates.
- Excellent analytical abilities, with experience in data analysis and performance metrics evaluation.
- Proficient in using procurement software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance standards related to transportation and logistics.
Nice to have
- Experience with freight forwarding or third-party logistics (3PL) operations.
- Knowledge of international shipping regulations and customs compliance.
