About the role
Become a vital member of the MongoDB Server Query team, where you will play a crucial role in the advancement of a high-performance, distributed open-source query engine. This team is pivotal in refining user experiences and enhancing data processing capabilities. Your responsibilities will span the entire lifecycle of the MongoDB Query Language, including parsing, optimization, execution, and functionalities related to geospatial searches and updates.

What you'll do
- Evaluate and improve existing functionalities of the MongoDB query engine to ensure optimal performance.
- Design, implement, and maintain new features that enhance query performance, broaden the capabilities of the query language, and identify performance bottlenecks.
- Collaborate closely with fellow engineers to facilitate seamless updates within a complex and feature-rich codebase.
- Work alongside various teams, including client drivers, cloud services, and support, to synchronize changes and contribute to their initiatives effectively.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to maintain high code quality.
- Engage in troubleshooting and debugging efforts to resolve issues that arise during development and testing phases.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in database technologies and query optimization techniques to apply best practices in your work.
- Document your work thoroughly to ensure knowledge sharing and maintainability within the team.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in data processing environments, demonstrating a solid understanding of the domain.
- A proven history of developing high-quality software solutions in a professional setting.
- Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals, especially in data structures, algorithms, and software architecture principles.
- Familiarity with large codebases and experience navigating complex software systems.
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience in the field.
- Proficiency in C++ and experience with database system development are highly desirable.
- A keen interest in database query engines, with hands-on experience or advanced academic qualifications (M.Sc./Ph.D.) in the area being advantageous.
Success Measures
- In your first month, you will have successfully resolved multiple bugs in a minor version of our latest release.
- By the end of three months, you will have made contributions to a project targeting the next major version release.
- After six months, you will take on primary responsibilities for code reviews and actively participate in design discussions for new features.
- Within twelve months, you will be making significant contributions to the development of major new features, demonstrating your growth and impact on the team.
