Senior Software Engineer, Forward Deployed AI Engineer

MongoDB is seeking a talented individual to join our newly established Forward Deployed Engineering team, playing a crucial role in our expanded R&D division. This team bridges the efforts of application modernization with our Product and Engineering departments to enhance our offerings.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with project teams to support application modernization initiatives throughout the entire application lifecycle, from assessment to optimization.
• Test and provide feedback on MongoDB migration products to ensure they meet customer needs and drive product adoption.
• Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to help shape the future direction of MongoDB's product roadmap.
• Execute proof of concepts, developing or enhancing tools as necessary to ensure customer success, while focusing on reusability and integration with our products.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of our product line and the technologies that support it.
• Partner with a diverse delivery team, including consulting engineers, project managers, and account teams.
• Assist sales teams in evaluating potential opportunities with clients.
• Be prepared to work on-site with customers for up to 7 days each month, which may involve regional travel within Europe.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience in a field engineering role, professional services consulting, or as a full stack developer working directly with enterprise clients.
• Strong programming skills in Java or C#, with familiarity in database access patterns and frameworks related to these languages.
• In-depth knowledge of enterprise-level software architectures, application development methodologies, and software deployment practices.
• Experience in developing enterprise applications using relational databases and proficiency in SQL and stored procedures with Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, or PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with MongoDB and JSON-based document models is highly advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, with a collaborative mindset to address technical and business challenges creatively.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interactions with team members and clients.
• Understanding of Generative AI concepts, tools, and services; experience in building applications or tools using Generative AI is a significant plus, including familiarity with Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini, and OpenAI APIs.
• A keen interest in how AI-enhanced toolchains can optimize application development processes.

• Become an expert user of MongoDB and its migration products.
• Create a comprehensive playbook for customer application modernization projects in collaboration with other MongoDB engineers and product teams.
• Clearly communicate complex technical proposals to diverse audiences.
• Provide valuable insights into customer needs and product requirements based on field experience.
• Establish a reputation as a trusted advisor among field teams and clients.
• Contribute to the success of customer application migration initiatives they support.
