About the role
MongoDB is expanding its team to enhance tools that assist customers in migrating their applications from traditional relational databases to MongoDB. As businesses adapt their application development practices, they are increasingly attracted to the flexibility offered by the document model. The Relational Migrator team plays a crucial role in this transition and is now looking to enhance their capabilities by integrating AI with conventional text processing techniques.

What you'll do
- Work with stakeholders to create and execute a strategy for modernizing code, ensuring it meets contemporary software standards while maintaining original functionality.
- Build and sustain a reliable code parser that accurately interprets legacy code structures, converting them into standardized formats like abstract syntax trees (AST).
- Offer guidance to the engineering team on the application of new technologies and frameworks to tackle various challenges.
- Collaborate with product managers and fellow engineers to grasp business priorities and suggest innovative solutions.
- Ensure the codebase remains high quality by implementing tests that cover both functional and non-functional aspects, including load, unit, and integration testing.
- Share expertise through presentations, tech talks, and promoting best practices in technology and engineering.
- Define and enhance business and product metrics to improve the quality and efficiency of AI utilization.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in software development using Java or another programming language.
- Familiarity with generative AI, particularly large language models (LLMs), is highly preferred.
- Experience with text processing engines such as ANTLR is advantageous.
- Strong foundation in software engineering principles, system design, data engineering, and/or cloud architecture.
- Background in compiler design, code parsing, or related fields is essential.
- Understanding of concepts like abstract syntax trees (AST), lexical analysis, and syntax analysis.
- A curious mindset, positive demeanor, and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Engagement with emerging trends and research relevant to product features is important.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

- Acquainted yourself with the MongoDB database and its aggregation language.
- Gained an understanding of the problem space and domain.
- Established the software development infrastructure (tech stack, build tools, etc.) for relevant technology stacks.
- Started working with peers and participating in code reviews.
- Contributed to and delivered a significant AI-driven feature in the product.
- Assisted in the delivery of several product releases.
- Reviewed and contributed to technical design documents and project scopes.
- Delivered large-scale features across the entire technology stack.
- Participated in the recruitment and interviewing process for new team members.
- Collaborated with other teams within MongoDB.

MongoDB's salary range for this position in the U.S. is between $109,000 and $215,000 USD. Compensation is tailored to each candidate based on various factors, including skills, experience, and location. This salary is part of a comprehensive compensation package that may include equity, employee stock purchase program participation, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks of fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, a 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, and health benefits.
