Senior Software Engineer, Application Migration
Job description
About the role
We are seeking a senior engineer to design and build the infrastructure behind our generative AI platform and code migration tools. You will focus on high-performance data systems, orchestration layers, and database interactions to help customers modernize their legacy workloads. The role requires deep collaboration with cross-functional teams to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions. You will be responsible for ensuring that the systems you build are robust, efficient, and aligned with enterprise standards. This position is critical in bridging the gap between legacy architectures and modern cloud-native deployments. Your work will directly influence how customers migrate and operate their most critical applications. You will have the opportunity to shape the future of application migration within a high-growth environment. This role is based in Sydney and follows a hybrid work model.

What you'll do
- Architect and implement backend services that power the data migration engine and AI orchestration platform using Java and Spring Boot.
- Collaborate with AI researchers, product managers, and designers to refine the product roadmap and ensure technical feasibility.
- Profile and optimize system performance by identifying bottlenecks in data flow, orchestration, and database interactions.
- Lead code reviews and provide constructive feedback on technical design documentation to maintain high engineering standards.
- Oversee CI/CD processes, testing strategies, and quality assurance for distributed systems to ensure reliable deployments.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical challenges within our services to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
- Design integrations with streaming data platforms like Apache Kafka and CDC tools such as Debezium for real-time data synchronization.
- Develop and maintain interfaces for relational data modeling and SQL databases like Postgres or MySQL to ensure data integrity.
- Implement algorithms and data structures that optimize time and space complexity for large-scale data migration workloads.
- Ensure all services are deployed and operated effectively from the Sydney office, adhering to local and global operational practices.
Requirements
- Bring 6+ years of experience in backend, distributed, or core platform engineering to tackle challenging problems.
- Demonstrate proficiency in at least one of these languages: Java, Rust, C/C++, or Python for building production-grade services.
- Show a strong grasp of systems programming, memory management, and performance tuning to handle high-load scenarios.
- Have hands-on experience with streaming data platforms like Apache Kafka and CDC tools such as Debezium for event-driven architectures.
- Possess a background in relational data modeling and SQL databases like Postgres or MySQL to design efficient data schemas.
- Exhibit a solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and time/space complexity to write optimal code.
- Prove the ability to work from our Sydney office consistently and align with team schedules.
- Hold the right to work in Australia or be eligible for sponsorship as part of the hiring process.
Nice to have
- Apply knowledge of cloud-native distributed systems, specifically Kubernetes, for managing containerized services.
- Leverage experience with NoSQL databases to handle diverse data storage requirements.
- Contribute to open-source projects to demonstrate a commitment to community-driven development.
- Utilize familiarity with JavaScript and React to enhance front-end components of the migration tools.
