About the role
Join the Server Ingress Security team at MongoDB, where we are enhancing the security of MongoDB Server's ingress networking. This team is tasked with developing the Atlas Network Protection layer, a suite of high-performance, security-focused services designed to fortify MongoDB's pre-authentication defenses and enable rapid responses to emerging threats. We are seeking skilled Senior Engineers to become foundational members of this team, playing a vital role in our long-term strategic initiatives.

What you'll do
- Design, implement, and maintain production-ready security services using Rust, emphasizing security, correctness, performance, and operational excellence.
- Create ingress networking and security solutions to ensure the security, availability, and performance of our database services.
- Troubleshoot test failures and performance issues, applying fixes as needed.
- Lead development efforts and project management for features and initiatives within the Ingress Security area.
- Collaborate with Server, Atlas, Drivers, SRE, and Product Security teams to ensure the integration of the Atlas Network Protection layer with the overall MongoDB ecosystem.
- Work alongside Product Management and Engineering leadership to shape the team's roadmap.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in developing production-quality systems software.
- Proficiency in managing large backend or compiled codebases, with a preference for experience in Rust.
- Experience in security-sensitive or networking-related fields is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of systems fundamentals, including multi-threaded programming and performance profiling.
- Familiarity with network protocols, TLS, and connection lifecycle management is a plus.
- Knowledge of security principles such as attack surface reduction, input validation, memory safety, and defense-in-depth architectures is beneficial.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong inclination toward collaboration.
- Effective time management skills and the ability to evaluate project complexity realistically.
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, with a solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture. An interest in high-availability and security-critical systems is preferred.
Success Measures
- Within the first month: Grasp the high-level architecture of the Atlas Network Protection layer, set up your development environment, and resolve initial bugs.
- By three months: Make significant contributions to the Rust development of an ongoing project, take on code review tasks, and engage in evaluating designs for new features.
- At six months: Independently lead the development of a new feature and assist in mentoring new team members.
- After twelve months: Drive substantial enhancements in the security, performance, or operational aspects of the Ingress Security stack and contribute to the long-term technical strategy of the team.
