About the role
The Storage Layer Services (SLS) team at MongoDB is dedicated to reimagining the cloud storage architecture, which is crucial for the company's future in cloud services. This newly established group is responsible for creating high-performance, multi-tenant distributed storage solutions that enhance the current Atlas storage system while improving the efficiency of customer workloads.

What you'll do
- Work collaboratively with various teams to establish service level objectives, formulate capacity plans, and ensure the reliability and security of the Atlas storage layer.
- Engage in the design and upkeep of multi-tenant distributed storage systems, striking a balance between immediate engineering demands and long-term infrastructure aspirations.
- Develop robust services and infrastructure that are resilient and capable of self-recovery in the event of failures.
- Identify and implement critical metrics for monitoring incidents, assessing service health, availability, and overall performance.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to promptly address any issues related to the storage infrastructure.
- Acquire in-depth knowledge of infrastructure performance to optimize it from the application level down to the kernel.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the overall architecture and operational efficiency of storage services.
- Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual processes and improve operational efficiency across the storage layer.
Requirements
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in software development and managing distributed systems is essential.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, or similar is required.
- Demonstrated experience with stateful storage or large-scale database systems, including a solid understanding of durability, consistency, and recovery trade-offs.
- A customer-centric approach with a strong focus on operational efficiency is crucial.
- A preference for automation over manual intervention, emphasizing software solutions to reduce toil is highly valued.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies, particularly Kubernetes, to enhance application agility and resource management is necessary.
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure platforms, including AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Azure is important.
- A solid understanding of Linux operating system internals and networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, and routing is required.
Nice to have
- Experience leading major architectural transitions, such as moving from legacy storage systems to new multi-tenant architectures, including planning and executing large-scale data migrations while adhering to strict availability and durability standards.
- Experience in managing and scaling infrastructure across various cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Skills in designing secure, multi-tenant runtime environments at scale would be advantageous.

- Proficient in Python, Go, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, Azure, Linux, as well as networking protocols like TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, and routing.

The base salary range for this position at MongoDB is between $126,000 and $248,000 USD. Compensation will be influenced by various factors, including skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location. The benefits package may include equity options, participation in an employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks of fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, a 401(k) plan, mental health support, and various health insurance options. Please note that the mentioned salary range and benefits apply exclusively to candidates located in the U.S.
