About the role
MongoDB is seeking a seasoned commercial attorney to bolster our initiatives in the U.S. Public Sector and government contracting. This role will require the management of complex transactions while ensuring adherence to relevant regulations in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment. As a vital legal partner, you will collaborate closely with our public sector sales teams to drive success.

What you'll do
- Manage the entire lifecycle of public sector and commercial agreements, which includes drafting, structuring, and negotiating contracts related to Software as a Service (SaaS), cloud licensing, and professional services.
- Provide expert legal counsel on U.S. and international government procurement laws, including the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), General Services Administration (GSA) schedules, and Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRamp) requirements, while enhancing our compliance initiatives for the public sector.
- Collaborate with various cross-functional teams throughout the public sector sales cycle, from the initial assessment of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to managing audits and resolving disputes.
- Create and maintain legal resources such as playbooks and contract templates to streamline negotiations and empower our sales teams.
- Stay informed about changes in technology laws and government contracting regulations, providing proactive strategies for risk management.
- Partner with different departments to launch new programs that support the expansion of our commercial and public sector operations.
- Engage in training sessions for sales teams to enhance their understanding of legal considerations in public sector transactions.
- Review and analyze contracts to ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal policies, identifying potential risks and recommending solutions.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures that align with regulatory requirements and best practices in government contracting.
- Participate in negotiations with government entities, ensuring favorable terms and conditions while protecting the interests of MongoDB.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support ongoing projects and initiatives within the public sector.
- Mentor junior legal staff and provide guidance on complex legal matters related to public sector transactions.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience in handling U.S. public sector transactions, ideally with a background in both a law firm and a rapidly growing technology company.
- Comprehensive knowledge of government procurement frameworks, including FAR, DFARS, and related regulatory guidelines.
- Possession of an active Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage intricate contractual issues.
- Capability to assess risks and provide clear, actionable legal advice.
- A genuine interest in technology and its applications in the public sector.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong work ethic.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team, with a readiness to take on new challenges.

- The expected salary range for this position in the United States is between $140,000 and $275,000, contingent on individual qualifications and experience.
