MongoDB is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Engineer to join our Atlas Core Data Services team. In this position, you will contribute to the advancement of MongoDB Atlas, our premier database-as-a-service offering. You will be part of a team, where your expertise will be essential in fostering innovation and establishing the technical benchmarks that drive our continued success.

What you'll do
- Define the vision and set technical benchmarks for the Atlas SaaS data platform, emphasizing performance, scalability, cost efficiency, and resilience.
- Spearhead the design and development of new features, ensuring they provide substantial value to our users.
- Collaborate with leaders across engineering, product, and design to influence technical strategies and outline product roadmaps.
- Oversee the execution of large-scale features across various teams from initial concept through to final delivery.
- Address escalations from the Technical Support team and provide mentorship to colleagues in managing similar challenges.
- Produce high-quality database code, enhance the existing codebase, and guide team members to improve coding standards.
- Work alongside peers to refine the codebase and implement best practices for the Atlas platform.
- Ensure the codebase maintains high standards in security, durability, availability, performance, and maintainability.
- Lead initiatives in AI engineering within the Atlas Core Data Services team to boost developer productivity.
- Engage in the recruitment process for senior software engineering positions.
- Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in database technology from both industry and academic perspectives.
Requirements
- At least 15 years of experience in designing, programming, debugging, and optimizing distributed or highly concurrent systems using languages such as C, C++, Java, or Rust.
- Demonstrated experience in managing latency-sensitive, high-throughput systems effectively.
- Strong understanding of systems principles, including multi-threaded programming and large-scale distributed systems.
- Familiarity with database internals and the development of core components for data processing systems.
- Knowledge of best practices within a hosted database environment.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on collaboration and mentorship.
- Strong project and time management skills, with the ability to realistically assess project costs and complexities.
- Good understanding of information security management principles.
Success Measures
- In your first month, you will familiarize yourself with the architecture of MongoDB Atlas and contribute to ongoing projects.
- By the three-month mark, you will have contributed to a project for the next major release and addressed customer-reported issues.
- After six months, you will be actively involved in code reviews and contribute to discussions around feature design.
- By the end of your first year, you will lead the development of new features and mentor team members, significantly influencing the long-term technical direction of MongoDB Atlas.
