About the role
Join the Server Ingress Security team at MongoDB, where we are enhancing the security of MongoDB Server's ingress networking. This newly formed team is tasked with developing the Atlas Network Protection layer, a suite of high-performance security services designed to strengthen MongoDB's pre-authentication defenses and enable rapid responses to emerging threats. We are seeking a skilled Engineering Manager to help shape the future of this team as a foundational member, contributing to our long-term strategic goals.

What you'll do
- Oversee a team of engineers, managing all aspects of personnel development including recruitment, performance evaluations, and career growth.
- Take full responsibility for the outcomes produced by your team.
- Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of production-ready security services in Rust, emphasizing security, accuracy, performance, and operational excellence.
- Define and execute the 12-month roadmap for the Atlas Network Protection layer.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Program Management, and Engineering leadership to outline, prioritize, and deliver new features.
- Address time-sensitive security incidents and manage customer escalations effectively.
- Estimate project complexities, communicate timelines, and manage risks associated with team projects.
- Ensure smooth team operations by removing technical obstacles, coordinating dependencies across teams, and fostering a positive team environment.
- Contribute to strategic planning for organizational growth, including resource allocation, future hiring, and project assignments.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in managing software engineering teams, including responsibilities for hiring, performance management, and mentoring.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in developing production-quality systems software with large backend or compiled codebases, preferably using Rust.
- Familiarity with performance profiling, network protocols, TLS, and connection management is advantageous.
- Strong technical judgment to guide engineering decisions in security-sensitive or networking-related areas.
- A customer-centric mindset with a willingness to collaborate across teams to find optimal solutions.
- Proven experience in designing, writing, testing, maintaining, and operating critical software systems.
- Advanced knowledge or professional experience in security or networking domains is a plus.

Success Measures
- In the first month: Gain an understanding of the Atlas Network Protection layer's architecture, current projects, and daily processes. Start building relationships with key stakeholders in Server, Atlas, and Product Security.
- By three months: Assume full management of the team and establish trust with team members. Take charge of daily operations and participate in reviewing designs for new features while addressing technical challenges. Begin hiring additional engineers as necessary.
- By six months: Establish yourself as a key leader within the organization, becoming a go-to resource for team members. Take full ownership of the Ingress Security software components and lead the planning and execution of significant features aligned with the team's annual goals.
- By twelve months: Complete an annual cycle of performance reviews and growth discussions with team members. Contribute to the long-term vision for the Ingress Security stack and develop actionable plans to achieve that vision. Enhance team capability and productivity in measurable ways.
