About the role
As a , you will play a pivotal role in supporting our human resources functions while ensuring effective communication across diverse teams. This position requires fluency in both English and French, as you will be interacting with employees and stakeholders in both languages. You will be responsible for various HR administrative tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency of the HR department, and enhancing the employee experience within the organization.

What you'll do
- Assist in the recruitment process by posting job openings, screening resumes, and coordinating interviews with candidates and hiring managers.
- Manage onboarding processes for new hires, ensuring they have the necessary resources and information to integrate smoothly into the company.
- Maintain employee records and HR databases, ensuring accuracy and compliance with privacy regulations.
- Support the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, ensuring they align with Mitacs' values and objectives.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, benefits, and procedures in both English and French, providing clear and accurate information.
- Coordinate training sessions and workshops, collaborating with various departments to identify training needs and facilitate employee development.
- Assist in the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks offered by Mitacs.
- Participate in performance management processes, helping to track employee progress and facilitate performance reviews.
- Contribute to employee engagement initiatives, including surveys, feedback sessions, and team-building activities.
- Support the HR team in various projects and initiatives, providing administrative assistance and contributing to a positive team environment.
- Stay updated on HR trends and best practices, bringing innovative ideas to enhance HR processes and employee satisfaction.
- Collaborate with external partners and vendors to ensure the effective delivery of HR services and programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an HR role, preferably in a bilingual environment.
- Proficiency in both English and French, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Familiarity with HR software and tools, such as applicant tracking systems and HRIS.
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations in Canada, particularly in relation to bilingual workplaces.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all HR-related documentation and processes.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
Nice to have
- Experience in a research or academic environment, particularly within a non-profit organization.
- Certification in Human Resources (e.g., CHRP, PHR) is a plus.
- Familiarity with payroll systems and benefits administration.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
- Experience with HR management software and tools, such as BambooHR or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting HR metrics and data.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing HR challenges.
