About the role
The Senior Systems Engineer owns the end-to-end technical leadership required to integrate and validate the Next Gen Autonomous Driving Kit throughout the entire development lifecycle. This role leverages a deep system-level understanding of May Mobility products and technologies to actively support cross-functional engineering efforts and ensure program objectives are met. The Senior Systems Engineer acts as the primary binding agent across software, hardware, and product teams, negotiating trade-offs and resolving conflicts to keep the ADK 6.0 program aligned. They define and develop metrics to verify that the system and its subsystems satisfy both feature and safety requirements while producing polished specifications suitable for OEM collaboration. This position is responsible for streamlining interfaces between system architects, controls engineering, and external OEM platform partners. The role further performs rigorous systems integration and validation activities to complement unit-level testing conducted by embedded teams. Additionally, the Senior Systems Engineer evaluates industry and regulatory requirements for applicability to May Mobility products and drives continuous improvement in requirements and processes.

What you'll do
- Leverage a system level understanding of our products and technologies to support cross-functional engineering efforts across the organization.
- Act as the binding agent across multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring software, hardware, and product requirements and targets remain aligned across the ADK 6.0 program from concept to launch.
- Own systems integration and validation activities to ensure the platform performs as designed, complementing the unit-level testing already performed within the team and closing the verification loop.
- Define and develop metrics to verify that the system and its subsystems satisfy both feature and system requirements through objective measurement strategies.
- Create and maintain requirement specifications by analyzing stakeholder, product, and safety requirements to define precise technical system and subsystem requirements.
- Support system design activities by assessing impact and conformance to requirements, ensuring design decisions remain within defined constraints and program goals.
- Collaborate with test and validation teams to define verification criteria for system requirements that are testable, traceable, and comprehensive.
- Review legacy requirements to ensure completeness and correctness, identifying gaps and opportunities for enhancement across the product lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain requirements and specifications to a level of polish suitable for direct collaboration with OEM partner engineering teams.
- Identify, negotiate, and resolve cross-functional trade-offs and conflicts across the entire development process, gaining timely buy-in from impacted teams and stakeholders.
- Streamline interfaces between system architects, controls engineering, and OEM platform partners to reduce ambiguity and accelerate integration.
- Evaluate industry and regulatory requirements for applicability to May Mobility products, translating complex standards into actionable system requirements.
- Perform FMEA analysis, tracking findings to resolution and ensuring that risk mitigation actions are implemented and verified.
- Identify gaps in processes and propose solutions for resolution, driving improvements in requirements traceability and system validation.
- Follow safe work procedures, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as instructed, utilize workplace tools and equipment as directed, and report workplace hazards, injuries, and illness as soon as possible.
Requirements
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to Ann Arbor, MI, to fulfill the responsibilities of this role in person.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for this position, ensuring compliance with employment regulations.
- Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field as the minimum educational qualification.
- Must have a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in systems engineering, automotive, or related high-tech fields to demonstrate depth of knowledge.
- Must have detailed knowledge of requirements management and requirement-based design processes, including tools and best practices used in regulated environments.
- Must demonstrate proven ability to lead system integration activities and validate complex systems against defined requirements and test objectives.
- Must possess excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
- Must show strong attention to detail and be highly organized to manage multiple deliverables, deadlines, and system interfaces simultaneously.
- Must be able to multitask and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment while maintaining focus on program goals.
- Must understand agile startup and engineering principles and mindset, embracing iterative development, continuous feedback, and rapid improvement.
- Must display systems thinking and meticulous attention to detail when analyzing interactions between hardware, software, and operational behaviors.
- Must have the ability to evaluate and apply industry and regulatory requirements to real-world product constraints and design decisions.
- Must demonstrate experience performing FMEA and tracking risk resolution within a structured product development process.
- Must follow documented safe work procedures and workplace safety protocols consistently to ensure a secure and hazard-free environment.
