May Mobility is on the lookout for a Corporate Counsel to join our dynamic Legal team and serve as a vital advisor across the organization. This role is perfect for an attorney who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and is adaptable to change. You will be responsible for negotiating and managing supplier and commercial contracts, contributing to compliance initiatives, reviewing marketing materials, and providing practical legal guidance as we grow our autonomous vehicle operations on a global scale.

What you'll do

• Prepare, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial and supplier agreements, including contracts related to hardware supply, software licensing, services, joint ventures, and partnerships, while developing and maintaining playbooks and templates for the legal department.
• Design and implement compliance programs and policies that address data privacy, safety, regulatory requirements, and corporate governance.
• Provide continuous legal support to various cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, business development, government relations, marketing, and human resources.
• Advise on regulatory matters related to the testing, deployment, and commercialization of autonomous vehicles at different levels of government.
• Oversee external legal counsel and work with outside experts on specialized legal issues such as litigation, intellectual property, and regulatory submissions.
• Stay informed about and interpret evolving laws and regulations that affect autonomous vehicles, transportation, data privacy, and employment, and communicate the business implications to leadership.
• Develop and conduct training sessions on legal compliance, best practices in contracting, and risk management for business teams.
• Support corporate transactions, equity matters, and board-related activities as needed.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
• Between 5 to 8 years of legal experience, ideally combining roles in both law firms and in-house counsel (experience in technology, automotive, or mobility sectors is highly desirable).
• Demonstrated ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial and supplier agreements effectively.
• Experience in developing or managing compliance programs, policies, or internal controls is essential.
• In-depth knowledge in at least one of the following areas: regulatory affairs, safety/product liability, data privacy (e.g., CCPA, CPRA, APPI, GDPR), or employment law.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to assess legal risks in relation to operational objectives in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of simplifying complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience in the autonomous vehicle, automotive, robotics, or advanced transportation technology sectors.
• Familiarity with NHTSA regulations, FMVSS standards, state AV legislation, or other transportation safety frameworks.
• Background in advising on data privacy issues related to connected or autonomous vehicles, including geolocation data, telematics, and rider information.
• Understanding of government affairs, public policy, or collaboration with regulatory bodies (DOT, NHTSA, state DMVs).
• Experience guiding companies through periods of rapid growth, including Series C/D funding and beyond.
• Ability to operate as a generalist across various legal areas while building institutional knowledge within a lean legal team.
• CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or other privacy certifications are a plus.
