About the role
Mapbox is seeking an Engineering Manager, Nav SDK, iOS to spearhead the evolution of our navigation capabilities within the iOS ecosystem. In this capacity, you will own the strategy and execution for the Nav iOS SDK, ensuring it remains at the forefront of real-time location technology. You will mentor a team of skilled engineers, guiding them to deliver robust, high-performance navigation solutions that power applications across the globe. This role requires a strategic thinker who can translate product vision into technical roadblocks and rally the team to achieve ambitious goals. You will be responsible for defining the technical direction of the SDK, balancing innovation with the stability required by our enterprise customers. Success in this position means driving initiatives that enhance the developer experience and solidify Mapbox's leadership in location-aware services. You will act as a key liaison between engineering, product, and design to ensure alignment on critical features and long-term architectural integrity.

What you'll do
Define the technical strategy and long-term vision for the Mapbox Navigation iOS SDK in collaboration with product leadership.
Architect and evolve the rendering engines and core navigation components to support next-generation mapping experiences.
Partner closely with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into a clear, executable product roadmap for the SDK.
Mentor and develop a team of iOS engineers, providing guidance, code reviews, and career development opportunities.
Establish and enforce best practices for SDK architecture, API design, and design patterns to ensure scalability and maintainability.
Drive a culture of data-driven decision-making by implementing monitoring, metrics, and analytics for SDK performance and user behavior.
Champion operational excellence by refining continuous integration and delivery pipelines specific to iOS SDK development.
Foster a collaborative environment where innovation is encouraged, and complex technical problems are solved creatively.
Act as the primary technical advocate for the Nav iOS SDK, communicating its capabilities and limitations to internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure the SDK meets the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance demanded by our customers in automotive, logistics, and consumer markets.
Lead the discovery and evaluation of new iOS technologies, assessing their potential impact on navigation and mapping experiences.
Balance the delivery of new features with the critical need for stability, security, and a consistent developer experience.
Build strong relationships with key customers to understand their challenges and influence the SDK's future priorities.
Contribute to the broader Mapbox engineering community by sharing insights and learnings from the iOS platform.
Requirements
Demonstrate 3+ years of engineering management experience with a proven track record of leading technical teams to deliver impactful products.
Bring a minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in mobile software development, with deep expertise in iOS development.
Possess extensive experience in developing Mobile SDKs, including SDK architecture, API design, and established design patterns.
Showcase knowledge of maps, navigation, and location technologies such as GIS systems, even if gained through adjacent projects.
Have a documented history of hiring, mentoring, and growing top technical talent within a fast-paced engineering organization.
Exhibit a strong commitment to operational excellence, including the use of monitoring, metrics, and continuous improvement processes.
Maintain high standards for balancing speed and quality to uphold an exceptional developer experience and SDK reliability.
Embody a mindset of ownership and execution, confidently leading vision, strategy, and execution for high-impact projects with minimal supervision.
Show a genuine passion for solving customer problems and delivering delightful, intuitive experiences for end-users of navigation applications.
Proficiency in English at a C1 level is mandatory for effective daily communication with stakeholders across the organization.
Nice to have
Experience developing applications for automotive, logistics, or other specialized navigation domains.
A background in contributing to or maintaining large-scale, public-facing open-source projects.
Familiarity with Mapbox products, maps, navigation, and location technologies such as GIS systems.
