About the role
You will own the execution and maintenance of critical environmental compliance workflows across multiple operational sites, ensuring all activities meet federal, state, and local regulatory standards. You will serve as the primary internal liaison for environmental compliance matters, translating complex regulations into actionable requirements for cross-functional teams. You will drive the development of automated data systems and tools that enhance the accuracy and efficiency of environmental reporting and monitoring. You will partner closely with Operations and Project Delivery to integrate environmental compliance into project planning and execution from the earliest stages. You will analyze environmental performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement and operational resilience. You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving environmental regulations and advise the organization on necessary adjustments to maintain compliance. You will prepare comprehensive documentation, reports, and dashboards for internal stakeholders and external regulators as required. You will contribute to the realization of Mainspring's mission by ensuring environmental integrity supports the deployment of reliable and sustainable energy solutions.

What you'll do
Develop and manage environmental compliance workflows to ensure adherence to air quality, water quality, waste management, and permitting requirements.
Lead the configuration and administration of environmental data management systems, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and timely reporting.
Design and implement automation solutions to streamline environmental reporting, reduce manual effort, and minimize compliance risk.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to collect necessary environmental data, track compliance metrics, and support audit preparation.
Perform regular analysis of environmental performance indicators to assess operational compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Serve as the subject matter expert for environmental regulations applicable to Mainspring's operations and guide teams on regulatory obligations.
Create and maintain environmental compliance documentation, including permits, logs, inspection reports, and regulatory submissions.
Support the integration of environmental compliance requirements into project planning, site development, and operational scaling activities.
Monitor changes in environmental laws and regulations, assessing impacts on company operations and recommending appropriate responses.
Collaborate with external regulatory agencies and consultants to resolve compliance issues and maintain positive working relationships.
Implement tracking mechanisms for permit deadlines, reporting schedules, and compliance milestones to ensure timely execution.
Develop standardized procedures and training materials to support consistent environmental compliance practices across the organization.
Utilize data visualization tools to present environmental performance and compliance status to leadership and stakeholders effectively.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that align environmental compliance with operational efficiency and business objectives.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of three years of experience in environmental compliance, environmental consulting, or a related regulatory role required.
Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including air emissions, wastewater, hazardous waste, and spill prevention.
Proven experience managing environmental data and reporting systems, including database tools and regulatory reporting platforms.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in data handling.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, environmental data management tools, and reporting software required; scripting experience a plus.
Nice to have
Experience in the energy, utilities, or industrial manufacturing sectors preferred.
Knowledge of environmental management systems such as ISO 14001 or EMAS is a plus.
Familiarity with environmental compliance software platforms and regulatory databases.
Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
Understanding of carbon accounting and sustainability reporting frameworks.

The role is based in Menlo Park, California, and may require travel to other operational sites as needed.
