About the role
The Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis at Mainspring Energy is entrusted with defining and directing the company's enterprise financial strategy from a position of strategic influence. This executive role owns the end-to-end financial planning process, ensuring that analysis directly informs high-stakes investment and growth decisions at the corporate level. You will translate complex operational and market data into clear, actionable strategic options that empower the executive team to move the business forward with confidence. Success in this position requires a leader who actively challenges internal assumptions, leverages data-driven insights, and functions as a trusted advisor to the Chief Financial Officer and the broader C-suite. The position is centered on enterprise-wide financial strategy, top-down analysis, and long-range planning that anticipates future market conditions and internal capabilities. You will manage and develop a team of experienced financial planning and analysis managers who are responsible for day-to-day budgeting, forecasting, and business partnering across the organization. This leader will be instrumental in strengthening the analytical rigor of the Finance organization and elevating the strategic planning process to a higher level of precision and insight. The role demands a deep understanding of how financial performance connects to operational reality in the energy sector, particularly within the unique context of distributed energy systems. The Vice President will help shape the financial strategy that supports Mainspring's next phase of growth, market expansion, and execution against long-term value creation goals.

What you'll do
- Own the enterprise financial planning and analysis function, setting the direction for forecasting, modeling, and strategic analysis across the organization.
- Translate operational and market data into clear strategic options that guide major investment decisions and long-range planning initiatives at the corporate level.
- Lead the development of enterprise forecasts by consolidating inputs from development, operations, sales, and business development teams to ensure comprehensive accuracy.
- Manage a team of financial planning and analysis managers, providing oversight, mentorship, and alignment on budgeting, forecasting, and business partnering activities.
- Partner closely with entities such as AEP and NextEra Energy Resources to ensure that planning assumptions and forecasts meet partner requirements and reflect real market conditions.
- Collaborate with Schneider Electric to align financial models and key business assumptions, ensuring consistency and transparency in shared analyses.
- Design and refine intake workflows for financial and strategic requests to clarify objectives, scope, and decision context before analysis begins.
- Construct detailed financial models and scenario analyses that evaluate strategic options, quantify trade-offs, and highlight implications for growth and risk.
- Review performance metrics, variance explanations, and forecast accuracy to guide adjustments in plans, resource allocation, and strategic priorities.
- Communicate insights through clear narratives and structured reports that equip executives with the information needed for timely, informed decision-making.
- Ensure that forecasts accurately reflect the realities of Mainspring Linear Generators and related systems currently in active use across the field.
- Strengthen the analytical rigor of the Finance organization by implementing best practices, enhancing data quality, and improving model governance.
- Act as a subject matter expert on energy sector financial dynamics, supporting the evaluation of new opportunities, markets, and partnerships.
- Drive continuous improvement in the planning and analysis function by identifying gaps, proposing enhancements, and incorporating feedback from stakeholders.
- Represent the Finance function in cross-functional initiatives, ensuring that financial perspectives are integrated into product, commercial, and operational strategies.
Requirements
- Must have three years of experience in financial planning or a functionally equivalent role in a complex environment focused on analysis and forecasting.
- Must demonstrate experience managing financial models, forecasts, and long-range planning exercises that directly influence strategic decisions.
- Must have experience analyzing data from development pipelines and operational units within the energy sector to inform financial planning.
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with global energy partners, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to advance shared objectives.
- Must possess strong analytical capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex data sets, identify key drivers, and communicate implications clearly.
- Must have proven experience leading and developing a team of finance professionals, providing direction, feedback, and performance management.
- Must exhibit sound judgment and the ability to make decisions in dynamic, mission-critical environments where priorities may evolve rapidly.
- Must hold a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative field; advanced degrees or professional certifications are highly valued.

- Preferred experience working with or supporting global energy partners such as AEP and NextEra Energy Resources in a planning or commercial capacity.
- Familiarity with business planning and financial modeling in distributed energy, utilities, or technology-intensive sectors.

Practical notes
This role is based in Menlo Park, California, and is structured as a salaried position. The compensation for this position is one hundred eighty thousand dollars annually. The Vice President must have a proven track record of three years of experience in financial planning or a functionally equivalent role in a complex environment. Demonstrated experience managing financial models, forecasts, and long-range planning exercises is essential. The candidate must have experience analyzing data from development pipelines and operational units within the energy sector.
