About the role
You will own the monitoring and rapid response to system alerts across Mainspring Energy's distributed power generation fleet, ensuring operational issues are identified and addressed before they escalate. In this capacity, you will execute defined troubleshooting actions using established flowcharts and decision trees to resolve problems during overnight and weekend shifts. You will serve as a critical coverage resource, filling open shifts and providing absence coverage to maintain seamless operational continuity across all teams. The role requires a high level of ownership, where your proactive collaboration with engineering and field operations will directly influence system reliability and performance. You will work within a fuel-flexible power generation environment, supporting solutions that deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable electric power to data centers and utilities. Your attention to detail will ensure that every alert is logged, tracked, and resolved in alignment with Mainspring's values of Pragmatic Optimism and Excellence without Ego. Key facts
What you'll do
Monitor system dashboards and alerting platforms to identify anomalies in generator performance and power output.
Respond promptly to high and medium priority alerts, initiating immediate diagnostic checks and recording observations in operational logs.
Execute step-by-step troubleshooting procedures based on internal flowcharts to address faults in linear generator subsystems.
Document all incidents, actions taken, and outcomes in the company's tracking systems to maintain accurate operational records.
Support coverage needs by filling open shifts and assisting with vacation or absence coverage across the operations team.
Adapt to changing operational demands by shifting between monitoring, manual diagnostics, and coordination with remote engineering support.
Perform routine verification checks on system status before and after shifts to ensure continuity and reduce handoff errors.
Communicate clearly with on-call engineers and field technicians to escalate issues that exceed defined resolution protocols.
Maintain readiness to deploy diagnostic tools and interface with technical systems that manage fuel-flexible power generation.
Uphold safety and compliance standards by adhering to all documented procedures during overnight and weekend operational windows.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on recurring issues and suggesting refinements to troubleshooting guides.
Assist with data collection during field operations to support reliability testing and performance validation activities.
Support the operational readiness of Mainspring's distributed generation assets through consistent shift adherence and meticulous monitoring.
Contribute to the reliability of power delivery for Fortune 500 customers and utility partners by sustaining stable generator performance.
Requirements
Be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
Possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
Have the legal right to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship from Mainspring Energy.
Be able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.
Be able to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle objects, and reach with no restrictions.
Be able to work scheduled shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by operational needs.
Demonstrate the ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures accurately.
Pass pre-employment drug screening and background check in accordance with company policy.
Nice to have
Previous experience in monitoring, operations support, or technical troubleshooting roles.
Exposure to power generation, energy systems, or industrial control environments.
Experience working overnight shifts or in 24/7 operational settings.
Practical notes
This role follows a 4×10 schedule (four 10-hour overnight shifts per week), with two shift block options.
Block A runs Saturday through Tuesday, ending Wednesday morning, from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM PST/PDT.
Block B runs Tuesday through Friday, ending Saturday morning, from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM PST/PDT.
Work location is in Menlo Park, California, and is subject to change based on business needs.
Travel is not required for this position.
This is an hourly, non-exempt role subject to eligibility for overtime in accordance with company policies.
New hires must complete onboarding and any required training before beginning independent shift coverage.
Candidates must successfully pass all pre-employment screenings prior to start date.
