You will serve as a trusted advisor to multiple internal business partners, translating complex legal risks into actionable strategies. This position demands hands-on ownership of a wide variety of litigation matters, pre-litigation dispute resolution, and internal counseling with a focus on high-stakes challenges. You will proactively manage every phase of disputes, from discovery and motion practice to witness preparation and settlement negotiations. Your work to minimize legal risk to the Company will be core to the success of the organization, requiring strategic thinking, sound judgment, and executive presence. You will report directly to a Director on the Litigation team.

What you'll do
Drive litigation strategy and execution for a diverse portfolio, including consumer litigation, regulatory disputes, government investigations, and competition matters. You will proactively manage all phases of disputes, including discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, settlement negotiations, and trial and appellate strategies. Partner closely with internal business teams to provide strategic and proactive legal advice on current and prospective Lyft products and services. Translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical guidance for cross-functional decision-making. Provide clear legal recommendations to departments such as Compliance, Public Policy, Communications, Customer Care, Product, Marketplace, and Lyft Urban Solutions. Manage relationships and tactical guidance for outside counsel, including case management, staffing, budgeting, and alignment with Lyft's broader legal objectives. Independently analyze facts and law to assess legal risks and develop creative solutions in a fast-paced environment. Communicate legal risks and recommendations effectively to senior leaders, demonstrating executive presence and judgment. Balance detailed work with big-picture thinking to ensure comprehensive and efficient case management. Act as a resourceful self-starter who embodies Lyft's culture and operates with high standards and ethics.
Requirements
J.D. degree from a top-tier law school and active membership in at least one state bar. 5+ years of civil litigation experience at a mid to large size law firm and/or a regulatory agency. Strong preference is given to candidates with prior in-house experience. Prior experience with regulatory disputes and government investigations, competition matters, and complex or consumer class actions is preferred. Excellent problem-solving capabilities, strategic thinking, judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills. Both detail oriented and able to see the big picture. Ability to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive attitude to the workplace. Executive presence and ability to communicate legal risks and recommendations to senior leaders. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and influence through excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to think quickly on your feet and simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands and shifting priorities. Be a resourceful self-starter and have a passion for results. An understanding of the multi-modal transportation and ridesharing industries, as well as the sharing economy in general. Passion for Lyft and the ridesharing community.
