What you'll do
Architect and deliver client-side features using Unity and C# for a mid-core 3D mobile game, ensuring stability and performance across a diverse device landscape.
Design modular, data-driven systems that safely consume live configuration, remote content, and backend-driven state to enable rapid iteration without client redeploys.
Lead features from initial design through implementation, polish, release, telemetry analysis, debugging, and post-launch iteration, taking full ownership of the outcome.
Collaborate with design, art, backend, QA, and production to interpret ambiguous feature goals and transform them into reliable, player-facing experiences that meet design intent.
Define and enforce API contracts and client-server flows with backend engineers, focusing on error handling, version compatibility, and efficient production diagnostics.
Champion code quality by conducting thoughtful code reviews, improving tooling, and designing maintainable systems that reduce long-term technical debt.
Diagnose and resolve complex production issues on mobile devices, including crashes, performance degradation, networking anomalies, and Unity lifecycle edge cases.
Work autonomously on complex problems while clearly communicating progress, risks, and trade-offs to engineers, designers, artists, QA, and production stakeholders.
Build or significantly contribute to at least one major feature end-to-end in a small-team environment, demonstrating ownership across design, implementation, and live operations.
Communicate technical constraints and opportunities to non-technical team members using clear, precise English to ensure alignment and shared understanding.
Partner with QA to define testable scenarios, reproduce elusive bugs, and validate fixes to ensure a consistent and high-quality experience at launch and beyond.
Leverage version control and development best practices to manage changes, resolve conflicts, and maintain a stable main branch throughout rapid development cycles.
Support the integration of analytics and monitoring tools to track player behavior, detect regressions, and inform data-driven decisions for future improvements.
Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance on Unity best practices, C# patterns, and problem-solving strategies that raise the overall standard of the codebase.
Requirements
Bring 8+ years of professional game development experience, with at least 5 years deeply invested in Unity and C# to solve complex problems in production.
Show a proven track record of shipping multiple games, including at least one complete Unity title that reached players.
Demonstrate a deep understanding of the Unity lifecycle, MonoBehaviours, ScriptableObjects, Prefabs, Addressables, serialization, and asset/content loading patterns.
Write strong C# code with fluency in async programming, cancellation and cleanup patterns, memory and performance awareness, and maintainable architecture.
Have experience building data-driven or live-service systems that reliably support remote configuration, frequent content updates, live events, and backend-driven behavior.
Comfortably own complex features from vague requirements to polished production behavior, navigating ambiguity without constant direction.
Perform detailed debugging for mobile client issues, using logs, crash reports, performance metrics, networking analysis, and device-specific behavior investigations.
Collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, artists, QA, and production, maintaining clear written and verbal communication in English.
Have built or shipped at least one game while operating in a small-team environment, taking end-to-end ownership over multiple major facets of development.
Read, write, and speak English at a professional level to ensure precise communication across global teams and stakeholders.
Nice to have
Preferably bilingual in English and Japanese, enabling smoother collaboration with local teams and partners.
Have shipped Free-to-play titles, understanding the nuances of monetization, live operations, and player retention.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices to streamline integration, deployment, and quality assurance.
Practical notes
This role is based in Tokyo and requires full-time on-site presence.
Travel is not required for this position.
