What you'll do
- Lead the design and development of electrical and instrumentation systems for energy projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements and develop detailed design specifications.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential challenges and propose effective solutions.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including design calculations, specifications, and reports.
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems, ensuring they meet project specifications and performance criteria.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, addressing any issues that arise and ensuring timely resolution.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to enhance the company's engineering capabilities.
- Participate in project meetings and presentations, effectively communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies throughout all phases of project execution.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to select appropriate materials and equipment for projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Contribute to the development of engineering standards and procedures, promoting consistency and efficiency across projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation design, preferably within the energy sector.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulations, including NEC, IEEE, and ISA.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar tools.
- Experience with control systems, PLC programming, and instrumentation design.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools is an asset.
- Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation in Ontario is preferred.
Nice to have
- Experience with renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, or hydroelectric systems.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles as they relate to industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices in engineering design.
