What you'll do

• Lead the preparation and management of cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports for Yorkshire Water projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to minimize potential financial impacts on projects.
• Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers to monitor project progress, identifying any deviations from the budget and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
• Prepare and submit tender documents, analyzing bids and making recommendations to ensure the selection of the most suitable contractors.
• Manage the valuation of work completed, ensuring timely payments to contractors and suppliers while maintaining accurate records of expenditures.
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders to provide updates on project financials, addressing any concerns and ensuring transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
• Oversee the procurement process, negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve the best value for the company.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations, including health and safety standards, throughout the project duration.
• Mentor and support junior quantity surveyors and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
• Contribute to the development of best practices and standard operating procedures within the quantity surveying team.
• Participate in project meetings, providing financial insights and recommendations to enhance decision-making processes.
• Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and advancements in quantity surveying practices to maintain a competitive edge.

Requirements

• A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the construction or civil engineering sector.
• Proven experience in managing financial aspects of large-scale projects, preferably within the water industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management principles.
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Proficiency in quantity surveying software and tools, such as CostX, Bluebeam, or similar applications.
• A valid driving license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
• Membership or eligibility for membership in a recognized professional body, such as RICS or CIOB, is highly desirable.

Nice to have

• Experience working with Yorkshire Water or similar utility companies.
• Familiarity with project management methodologies, such as PRINCE2 or Agile.
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and environmental regulations in the construction industry.
• Previous experience in mentoring or training junior staff members.
• Additional qualifications, such as a Master's degree in Quantity Surveying or Project Management.

Skills & tools

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for financial modeling and reporting.
• Familiarity with project management software, such as MS Project or Primavera P6.
• Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to influence stakeholders effectively.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
