As a Senior Quantity Surveyor at Bamboohr, you will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the financial aspects of projects related to Yorkshire Water. What you'll do
- Lead the preparation and management of cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports for Yorkshire Water projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to minimize potential financial impacts on projects.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers to monitor project progress, identifying any deviations from the budget and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Prepare and submit tender documents, analyzing bids and making recommendations to ensure the selection of the most suitable contractors.
- Manage the valuation of work completed, ensuring timely payments to contractors and suppliers while maintaining accurate records of expenditures.
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders to provide updates on project financials, addressing any concerns and ensuring transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee the procurement process, negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve the best value for the company.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations, including health and safety standards, throughout the project duration.
- Mentor and support junior quantity surveyors and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Contribute to the development of best practices and standard operating procedures within the quantity surveying team.
- Participate in project meetings, providing financial insights and recommendations to enhance decision-making processes.
- Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and advancements in quantity surveying practices to maintain a competitive edge.
Requirements
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the construction or civil engineering sector.
- Proven experience in managing financial aspects of large-scale projects, preferably within the water industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management principles.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in quantity surveying software and tools, such as CostX, Bluebeam, or similar applications.
- A valid driving license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Membership or eligibility for membership in a recognized professional body, such as RICS or CIOB, is highly desirable.
Nice to have
- Experience working with Yorkshire Water or similar utility companies.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies, such as PRINCE2 or Agile.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and environmental regulations in the construction industry.
- Previous experience in mentoring or training junior staff members.
- Additional qualifications, such as a Master's degree in Quantity Surveying or Project Management.

- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for financial modeling and reporting.
- Familiarity with project management software, such as MS Project or Primavera P6.
- Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to influence stakeholders effectively.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
