Lanes Group is seeking a dedicated Quantity Surveyor to join our Capital Projects team based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. What you'll do
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for capital projects, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all financial documentation.
- Conduct thorough feasibility studies to assess the viability of proposed projects, providing insights on potential risks and opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers to develop budgets and monitor expenditures throughout the project lifecycle.
- Analyze and report on financial performance, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with company policies.
- Manage the procurement process for materials and services, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project schedules.
- Prepare and submit interim and final payment applications, ensuring that all financial claims are substantiated and compliant with contractual obligations.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress and assess compliance with project specifications, providing feedback to the project team.
- Support the preparation of tender documents and assist in the evaluation of bids from contractors and suppliers.
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions, ensuring that documentation is readily available for audits and reviews.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure that Lanes Group remains competitive in the market.
Requirements
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in quantity surveying, preferably within the capital projects sector.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, including NEC and JCT forms.
- Proficiency in cost management software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- A valid driving license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body, such as RICS, is desirable.
Nice to have
- Experience in the water, wastewater, or infrastructure sectors is an advantage.
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and its application in quantity surveying.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and their integration into project costing.
- Previous experience in a client-facing role, demonstrating strong stakeholder management skills.

- Strong numerical and analytical skills to interpret complex data and financial reports.
- Proficiency in using quantity surveying software such as CostX, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
- Excellent negotiation skills to secure the best possible terms with suppliers and contractors.

- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
