Semi Senior Software Engineer

About the role

You will architect and ship the core AI products that power our marketplace, owning the full lifecycle of high impact features from discovery through production. You will partner with cross functional teams to translate ambiguous business goals into scalable technical solutions while maintaining a relentless focus on performance and user experience. You will drive the adoption of modern engineering practices and infrastructure improvements that accelerate delivery across the organization. You will mentor junior engineers and elevate the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing. You will act as a systems thinker, diagnosing complex issues in production and ensuring reliability and observability of critical services. You will champion data driven decision making, using metrics and experiments to validate hypotheses and iterate on your solutions. You will collaborate with product and design to challenge assumptions and shape the roadmap toward the next chapter of AI first innovation at Kavak. You will bring a bias for action, embracing ownership and urgency to deliver results in a fast moving, high growth environment.

What you'll do

Investigate and refactor legacy services to improve scalability, latency, and developer experience across our marketplace platforms.

Design and implement resilient APIs and integration layers that enable seamless communication between our microservices and AI components.

Collaborate with data scientists to operationalize machine learning models, ensuring robust deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement in production.

Lead debugging and performance optimization initiatives for high traffic paths, using profiling, tracing, and log analysis to identify bottlenecks.

Define and enforce architectural standards, coding best practices, and security guidelines to maintain a high quality codebase.

Build and maintain automation for testing, deployment, and infrastructure provisioning to accelerate release cycles and reduce manual effort.

Partner with product managers to scope technical requirements, estimate effort, and de risk features before implementation.

Champion observability by instrumenting services, dashboards, and alerts that provide actionable insights into system health and user behavior.

Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical design sessions, and hands on pairing to grow the overall capability of the team.

Explore and prototype new tools, frameworks, and AI integrations that can provide a competitive edge in the fast evolving Latin American market.

Coordinate incident response activities, leading postmortems and action item tracking to prevent recurrence of critical issues.

Translate business metrics into technical roadmaps, aligning engineering priorities with company level goals and growth initiatives.

Contribute to the open source ecosystem where appropriate, sharing insights and reusable components that benefit the broader community.

Drive documentation efforts that capture system designs, APIs, and operational runbooks to improve team efficiency and continuity.

Requirements

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

You possess 4+ years of professional software development experience with a strong track record of delivering production grade systems.

You have deep proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, with solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.

You are experienced building and maintaining RESTful APIs and integrating with third party services in a reliable and secure manner.

You understand database fundamentals, including relational and NoSQL stores, query optimization, and schema design for scalable systems.

You have hands on experience with cloud platforms, containerization, and infrastructure as code, preferably in AWS or similar environments.

You are fluent in English, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with global teams and stakeholders.

You demonstrate strong ownership, problem solving, and debugging skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver results under pressure.

Nice to have

Experience with AI and machine learning tooling, including model serving, vector databases, or LLM integrations.

Contributions to open source projects or public repositories that demonstrate engineering craftsmanship.

Background in marketplace, fintech, or high volume transactional systems.

Familiarity with mobile development architectures or frontend frameworks if you enjoy working full stack.

Experience with data pipelines, streaming platforms, or real time analytics.

Practical notes

This role is based in Buenos Aires and requires availability during core business hours.

Limited travel may be required within Argentina for workshops, team offsites, or stakeholder meetings.
