About the role
The VP, Data at 9amHealth will own the complete data and analytics strategy that underpins our virtual specialty care platform. This leader will define and execute the vision for data engineering, analytics and BI, and data science across the organization. They will partner directly with the CEO and executive team to translate business strategy into a coherent roadmap for data, analytics, and AI. The role requires deep collaboration with clinical, product, engineering, and operations teams to ensure data decisions improve member outcomes and clinician workflows. Success will be measured by how data and ML shape the member journey, elevate clinical decision-making, and drive efficient operations. The hire will build and lead a multi-disciplinary data organization while maintaining rigorous standards for data quality, privacy, and governance. This is a strategic leadership position where the work directly influences care delivery at scale.

What you'll do
Define and communicate a clear data vision and roadmap that aligns with company strategy and supports virtual care delivery.
Own the end-to-end data function, including data engineering and platform, analytics and BI, and data science, ML, and AI initiatives.
Partner with the CEO and executive team to set company metrics, reporting cadences, and strategic priorities.
Collaborate with product and engineering leadership on instrumentation, experimentation design, and ML workflows in production.
Work with clinical leadership and care teams to evaluate outcomes, quality measures, and the impact of data-driven interventions.
Lead the development of a data architecture that balances real-time and batch needs while supporting safe AI-assisted care workflows.
Oversee the implementation of data models, ML models, and AI tools that integrate into the member app and internal EMR systems.
Establish governance frameworks for data quality, access controls, PHI handling, and HIPAA compliance.
Represent data strategy in board conversations, investor updates, and cross-functional planning sessions.
Coach and develop data engineers, analysts, data scientists, and ML engineers to elevate craft and rigor across the team.
Define and track core business metrics related to engagement, retention, clinical outcomes, and unit economics.
Collaborate with growth, marketing, finance, and operations to align data insights with business performance goals.
Evaluate and prioritize investments in analytics throughput, platform capabilities, and ML/AI experiments.
Ensure data pipelines, dashboards, and ML models support timely, evidence-based decisions for clinicians and care teams.
Drive a culture of experimentation, interpretability, and accountability in data and AI initiatives.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience as a senior data leader managing data engineering, analytics, and data science teams.
Strong background in building data platforms, data warehouses, and analytics ecosystems in healthcare or complex operational environments.
Proven ability to translate business strategy into data roadmaps and align stakeholders across functions.
Experience working with clinical data, PHI, and healthcare compliance requirements including HIPAA is essential.
Deep understanding of data architecture, including batch and streaming data, schema design, and data reliability.
Experience developing and deploying ML models into production workflows, with attention to model monitoring and safety.
Strong judgment in balancing speed, rigor, and scalability when making data and ML decisions.
Exceptional communication skills to articulate technical concepts to executive, clinical, and non-technical audiences.
Ability to operate autonomously while raising the bar for data quality, governance, and ethical AI use.
Nice to have
Experience in AI-assisted workflows and responsible AI practices in healthcare settings.
Background in virtual care, telehealth, or digital health platforms.
Experience working with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemia clinical data and outcomes.
