What you'll do

• Architect and implement new features that directly impact the user journey from discovery to application submission.
• Refactor legacy code to improve maintainability and performance while ensuring zero disruption to existing users.
• Design and lead the execution of technical spikes that validate new approaches to complex product requirements.
• Partner with product managers to translate ambiguous problems into well-defined technical specifications and success metrics.
• Conduct in-depth code reviews to uphold coding standards and share knowledge across the engineering organization.
• Optimize database queries and API response times to deliver fast and reliable experiences for high-concurrency scenarios.
• Coordinate with the DevOps team to build resilient deployment pipelines that support continuous delivery and rapid iteration.
• Define and maintain internal documentation standards that ensure consistency across services and teams.
• Mentor junior engineers by providing hands-on guidance on coding practices, debugging techniques, and problem-solving strategies.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks to identify opportunities for improving developer velocity and system efficiency.

Requirements

• Bring a minimum of 5 years of professional experience building production-grade web applications that serve real users.
• Demonstrate backend proficiency in Ruby or show equivalent experience with Python, Node.js, or Django in prior roles.
• Show frontend development expertise using React or Rails with a strong grasp of modern JavaScript and browser behaviors.
• Have a proven track record of scaling full-stack applications to handle significant traffic and data volume.
• Show deep understanding of API design principles, database architecture, data modeling, and performance optimization techniques.
• Be fluent in agile development workflows, CI/CD practices, and a variety of testing strategies including unit and integration testing.
• Have hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog or New Relic to drive operational excellence.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Hold a B.S. degree in Computer Science or a related field, though equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

• Experience contributing to open source projects or building side projects that demonstrate sustained engineering effort.

Practical notes

This position requires candidates to be based in the Los Angeles area and available to work from the Beverly Hills office 3-4 days per week.
