Hutchinson Community College (Hutchcc) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Adult Education/GED Instructor to join our team in Hutchinson, Kansas. What you'll do
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to adult learners, focusing on the core subjects required for GED preparation, including math, reading, writing, science, and social studies.
- Assess students' educational needs and learning styles to create personalized learning pathways that promote success in achieving their GED.
- Facilitate classroom instruction in a supportive and inclusive environment, encouraging active participation and fostering a sense of community among students.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources, including technology, to enhance the learning experience and accommodate diverse learning preferences.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and support to help them overcome challenges and stay motivated.
- Collaborate with other educators and staff to coordinate resources and support services that assist students in their educational journey.
- Organize and participate in community outreach initiatives to promote the adult education program and attract potential students.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and reporting requirements.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in adult education and GED instruction.
- Foster relationships with local employers and organizations to create pathways for students to transition into the workforce after earning their GED.
- Provide guidance and support for students in developing essential life skills, such as time management, study techniques, and goal setting.
- Engage in ongoing communication with students, addressing their concerns and providing resources to help them succeed both academically and personally.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Education, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of two years of experience in teaching or tutoring adult learners, particularly in GED preparation or similar educational programs.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and effective instructional strategies tailored to diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students from various backgrounds.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and digital tools to enhance instruction and facilitate learning.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and community partners to support student success.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Nice to have
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment design for adult education programs.
- Familiarity with local workforce development resources and community organizations.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish or other languages are a plus.
- Previous experience working with at-risk populations or individuals facing barriers to education.
