Hudson River Trading is seeking a skilled Endpoint Engineer with a specialization in macOS to become part of their infrastructure operations team. This role centers on the administration, security, and reliability of the macOS endpoint environment that underpins the firm's trading activities across global offices. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all macOS devices remain functional, secure, and performant, directly supporting the firm's mission to execute trades with speed and precision. The position requires close coordination with other engineering teams, security analysts, and office operations staff to deliver a consistent and dependable endpoint experience for traders and researchers alike. What you'll do
Manage and maintain the full macOS endpoint fleet deployed across the firm's offices in London and New York.
Deploy and configure new macOS devices at scale using automated tooling and standardized imaging workflows.
Monitor endpoint health, system performance metrics, and application availability to ensure uninterrupted trading operations.
Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues on macOS workstations, including display, storage, and network problems.
Develop and maintain shell scripts and automation pipelines to streamline endpoint provisioning and software deployment processes.
Enforce organizational security policies, conduct patch management cycles, and verify compliance with internal standards on all endpoints.
Work alongside the network and infrastructure engineering teams to integrate macOS endpoints into the broader trading architecture.
Create and maintain detailed documentation of endpoint configurations, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting runbooks.
Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours emergency support for critical endpoint failures or incidents.
Research and evaluate emerging macOS technologies, management frameworks, and third-party tools to improve endpoint operations.
Coordinate with end users to gather requirements, collect feedback, and prioritize improvements to the macOS experience.
Ensure that all endpoint images and configurations are kept up to date with the latest security patches and software releases.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience managing macOS endpoints in a professional, enterprise, or high-availability computing environment.
Thorough understanding of macOS system architecture, system administration fundamentals, and command-line utilities and workflows.
Proficiency with scripting languages such as Bash or Python to automate repetitive administrative and deployment tasks.
Working knowledge of endpoint management frameworks, mobile device management solutions, and device enrollment processes.
Proven ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex hardware and software problems under time pressure.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
A meticulous and methodical approach to system configuration, change management, and troubleshooting procedures.
Willingness to work flexible and rotating schedules, including on-call shifts to support production trading systems.
Nice to have
Hands-on experience with Jamf Pro or a comparable macOS-specific endpoint management and device control platform.
Understanding of Active Directory or LDAP directory services and their integration with macOS authentication and policies.
Prior exposure to financial services, electronic trading, or low-latency infrastructure environments and their operational demands.
Familiarity with virtualization technologies, including VMware or Parallels, and macOS deployment in virtualized or containerized settings.
Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines for testing and validating endpoint configuration changes.
Knowledge of endpoint detection and response solutions and general cybersecurity best practices for workstation protection.
Skills & tools
macOS system administration covering installation, configuration, updates, and terminal-based troubleshooting across multiple macOS versions.
Scripting proficiency with Bash, Python, or equivalent automation languages to build reliable and repeatable workflows.
Endpoint management and mobile device management platforms for large-scale device enrollment, policy enforcement, and inventory tracking.
Configuration management and deployment tooling to automate software installation, settings application, and system hardening tasks.
Networking fundamentals including Domain Name System, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, and virtual private network setup.
Security frameworks, patch management cadences, and compliance auditing procedures to maintain a hardened endpoint posture.
Practical notes
This position is headquartered in either London or New York, with a hybrid work model that may include office and remote days.
Candidates should anticipate working as part of a distributed engineering team that spans multiple time zones and office locations.
The role may require occasional travel between the London and New York offices for team meetings, deployments, or incident response.
