Hiive is a secondary market platform for pre-IPO shares, connecting buyers and sellers to improve transparency in private assets. We are seeking a player-coach to lead two product engineering teams while balancing people management with high-level technical oversight. The role requires a blend of hands-on technical contribution and strategic people leadership to ensure the product engineering organization is aligned with business goals. You will own the technical roadmap and delivery for your assigned products while fostering a high-performance engineering culture. What you'll do
- Manage two product engineering teams, including 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development for Engineering Leads and individual contributors.
- Provide technical guidance on architecture and review major engineering decisions to ensure alignment with long-term product strategy.
- Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to mentor team leads and support group growth through coaching and skill development.
- Partner with product managers and designers to prioritize features and maintain a disciplined delivery schedule that balances speed and quality.
- Monitor team health, platform stability, and operational performance, including participation in the on-call rotation to address critical incidents.
- Hire and scale the engineering organization by defining roles, conducting interviews, and building a diverse and high-performing team.
- Integrate AI-native coding workflows into team processes to enhance productivity and maintain a competitive edge in development practices.
- Define and implement engineering best practices, code review standards, and technical documentation to improve overall code quality.
- Drive the adoption of automated testing and continuous integration pipelines to increase deployment frequency and system reliability.
- Analyze product metrics and user feedback to identify areas for improvement and guide the engineering roadmap accordingly.
- Work cross-functionally with design, product, and operations to ensure seamless execution of product initiatives.
- Lead technical spikes and proof-of-concept projects to evaluate new technologies and their potential impact on the product.
- Ensure that all engineering activities comply with security and data governance standards relevant to financial platforms.
- Foster a culture of experimentation and learning where the team can innovate and iterate based on real-world feedback.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with the depth required to evaluate technical decisions and contribute to architecture.
- 3+ years in a formal management role overseeing engineers of varying levels, including Staff engineers, with a track record of developing talent.
- Hands-on experience building software at scale, specifically with Elixir, Ruby, or Typescript, demonstrating production-grade code.
- Proven ability to maintain high performance during periods of rapid company growth, managing both technical and organizational scaling challenges.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools and an understanding of how to integrate them into modern engineering workflows.
- Ability to thrive in a high-ownership environment where you define internal processes and take initiative in problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills to articulate technical concepts to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders effectively.
- Experience with agile methodologies and a commitment to continuous improvement in team processes and delivery.
