Engineering Manager, QA
Job description
About the role
Hiive is redefining how private companies and their shareholders access liquidity. Through its institutional-grade platform, Hiive brings together buyers, sellers, and issuers to facilitate secondary transactions in venture-backed, pre-IPO companies, introducing efficiency, transparency, and standardization to an otherwise opaque asset class. As an , you will lead a team of 3 QA engineers and own quality across our platform. You will define the QA strategy, own the test infrastructure and processes that allow Hiive to ship with confidence, and evolve how the team operates as AI-assisted engineering reshapes the way our product is built. This is a leadership role where you'll shape both the people and the practice of quality at Hiive. You will mentor engineers, drive process improvement, and ensure that the platform meets the rigorous standards required by institutional investors. The role demands a strategic mindset paired with hands-on technical depth. You will be responsible for building a scalable and maintainable testing foundation that supports rapid, safe growth.

What you'll do
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 3 QA engineers, setting clear ownership areas, performance expectations, and career growth paths.
- Define and own the QA strategy end-to-end - from test planning and case design through to reporting and continuous improvement - and adapt it continuously to the changing needs of AI-enabled product engineering.
- Design and maintain an automated test framework covering Hiive's core transaction, onboarding, and platform workflows.
- Integrate QA into CI/CD pipelines so that quality gates are automated and regression coverage runs on every build.
- Partner closely with product and engineering to review requirements, identify testability issues early, and advocate for quality throughout the development lifecycle.
- Track and report on defect trends, test coverage metrics, team performance, and release readiness to engineering leadership.
- Triage and investigate production issues, coordinating root cause analysis and ensuring fixes are covered by regression tests.
- Evaluate and introduce new tooling, AI-assisted testing approaches, or processes as Hiive's platform and team scale.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define testable acceptance criteria and validate releases against business objectives.
- Establish documentation standards for test artifacts, ensuring clarity and usability for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Drive the adoption of best practices in test-driven development, risk-based testing, and quality metrics.
- Explore and prototype AI-assisted testing tools to enhance efficiency and coverage in fast-paced development cycles.
- Coordinate testing efforts across multiple workstreams to ensure alignment and reduce duplication.
- Champion a quality-first mindset across the organization by demonstrating the value of rigorous testing.
- Continuously assess tooling and infrastructure needs, proposing investments that improve test reliability and speed.

- Solid understanding of testing methodologies: functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end.
- Ability to write clear test plans, test cases, and quality reports for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment where you define the process, not just follow it.
