About the role

The Assistant Coordinator, Expanded Learning serves as the primary administrative support pillar for the Aftercare Coordinator or Director within the High Tech High Expanded Learning framework. This role operates as a critical extension of the leadership team, stepping into a mentorship capacity when guiding school-aged participants through diverse activities. You will own the daily orchestration of the learning environment, ensuring that both indoor and outdoor spaces maintain an atmosphere that is orderly, safe, and conducive to growth. The position requires active facilitation of curriculum implementation, transforming lesson plans into tangible, engaging experiences for students. You will act as a conduit of communication, providing consistent outreach and updates to families regarding student progress and program development. Additionally, this role supports the coaching function, allowing you to lead sports and activity sessions that promote teamwork and physical wellness. You will be responsible for meticulous attendance tracking to ensure participant accountability and safety at all times. Ultimately, this position is second in command, providing reliable leadership in the temporary or permanent absence of the Aftercare Coordinator or Director.

What you'll do

● Provide outreach and communication to families regarding program updates and student engagement.

● May serve as second in charge in the absence of the Aftercare Coordinator/Director, ensuring operational continuity.

● Supervise school-aged children during indoor activities, maintaining a structured and focused environment.

● Supervise school-aged children in outdoor settings, promoting active play and safe exploration.

● Maintain an orderly, safe, and organized environment for the students, adhering to safety standards.

● Take attendance to ensure all students are accounted for, documenting participation accurately.

● Plan, develop, and facilitate engaging student activities that align with program objectives.

● Assist students with learning activities and homework assignments, providing academic reinforcement.

● Understand and implement emergency procedures, including safety protocols to protect students.

● Perform related duties as assigned by the Aftercare Coordinator or Director to support program goals.

Requirements

● High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

● Experience working with students in educational or recreational settings.

● Ability to work well with school-aged children of varying ages and backgrounds.

● Comfortable leading academic and enrichment activities with students in group settings.

● Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff members.

● Ability to work with diverse population representing different cultures and needs.

● Tuberculosis Clearance required prior to employment initiation.

● Department of Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance criminal records summary required.

● Must be able to meet the physical demands of the role, including extended periods of sitting or standing.

● Must be capable of performing duties in indoor and outdoor environments safely.

Practical notes

This is an in-person and on-campus position. The employment period is regular and part-time, non-exempt under hourly classification. The pay range is specified as $22.88-$27.89 per hour at Step 2 within the Classified Framework. This position does not qualify for standard benefits packages offered by the organization. The role operates within the FLSA classification of Hourly Classified, requiring adherence to timekeeping and wage regulations.
