Data Automation Specialist
Job description
About the role
You own the end to end automation stack that turns Harper's raw data systems into a daily operating advantage for every growth and GTM team. You will design and run the automations and AI agents that close the gap between complex data outputs and simple, timely decisions for busy stakeholders. This role is about making data immediately usable so the company can move at its current pace without adding headcount to every task. You will spend significant time inside AI tools, crafting prompts, orchestrating workflows, and ensuring the outputs are reliable enough to drive real business behavior. You report to the Head of Marketing and work shoulder to shoulder with GTM, growth, and operations partners to keep the feedback loop tight. Winning in the first six to twelve months means the teams around you feel a measurable speedup because the data work no longer blocks them. You are expected to ship working systems quickly, keep them maintained as Harper's data landscape shifts, and fix broken automations the same day they fail.
Key facts
What you'll do
Build data automations that surface insights, trigger alerts, and route information to the right people at the right time without anyone needing to ask.
Develop AI agents that monitor, summarize, and interpret data outputs so Harper can turn data into action with less manual effort.
Create operational dashboards and feeds that give the team an always-current view of performance without manual refresh steps.
Identify and eliminate manual data work by auditing how teams use data today and replacing repetitive steps with automated systems.
Maintain and improve automation infrastructure so that workflows stay reliable and performant as data systems and team needs evolve.
Partner with the data and growth teams, including the GTM Engineer and Data Analyst, to understand existing data assets and where automation adds the most leverage.
Own the end user experience of every automation you ship, ensuring that the systems built are not only functional but actually useful in day to day work.
Move from idea to working prototype quickly, balancing speed with durability so that automations can survive long enough to justify the effort.
Continuously look for opportunities to replace high effort, low value manual work with automated flows that scale as Harper grows.
Set clear expectations with stakeholders about what the automation layer can and cannot do, and maintain trust by delivering on commitments.
Champion a builder mindset across the data and growth organizations by demonstrating how thoughtful automation changes the pace of the business.
Document and communicate the behavior of automated workflows so that new teammates can understand and extend them without constant supervision.
Evaluate new AI tooling and automation platforms, adopting those that meaningfully reduce manual effort and discard approaches that do not move the needle.
Own a visible slice of Harper's data story, ensuring that the insights produced by complex systems are timely, accurate, and actionable for the entire go to market organization.
Requirements
You have built automations that genuinely changed how a team operates, not just connected two tools together in a fragile way.
You are fluent in at least one major AI development environment and have built real agents or AI powered workflows, not just short lived prototypes.
You have a builder's instinct where your first reaction to a manual process is to ask how it can be eliminated or automated.
You are comfortable writing Python or working with APIs when no code tools reach their limits.
You think about the end user of every automation, judging success not only by whether it works but by whether it is actually useful.
You can move from idea to working prototype quickly, and you know when to polish and when to ship a solution that is good enough.
You are based in San Francisco or are willing to relocate to San Francisco to work on site.
You thrive in an environment where data systems and team needs change quickly, and you are comfortable maintaining ownership of automations even when the underlying inputs are unstable.
You are comfortable with long days and high standards, and you understand that the role is measured by how much faster the team moves rather than by the number of tools connected.
Nice to have
Experience working directly with modern AI agents and understanding their strengths, limits, and failure modes in production workflows.
A track record of shipping automations that non technical teammates use every day without needing constant hand holding.
Familiarity with insurance or financial services data contexts, though Harper will train the right builder quickly if they have the fundamentals.
Practical notes
This role is on site in San Francisco with long days and a high bar for execution.
You must be based in San Francisco or be willing to relocate to San Francisco to work in person with the team.
