Senior Product Designer

About the role

You will own the end-to-end design of collaborative features that shape how people interact and communicate during live technical interviews on the HackerRank platform. You will identify meaningful problems worth solving and translate those insights into innovative, high-quality solutions that resonate deeply with both candidates and interviewers. This role requires you to partner tightly with product managers and engineers, bridging strategic intent with practical implementation through interaction and visual design. You will design next-generation interviewing experiences where developers can authentically showcase their skills within an AI-first environment. You will build those designs the same way, working alongside AI agents every day to validate assumptions and refine outcomes. Your work will directly influence how HackerRank helps companies like NVIDIA, Amazon, and Microsoft identify and invest in next-generation technical talent. You will ensure the human element remains central even as AI capabilities expand, creating durable value for users and customers.

What you'll do

Design and ship features that balance proven UI paradigms with new AI-powered interaction patterns to support live collaboration.

Translate design intent, including layout, hierarchy, motion, interaction states, and edge cases, into clear instructions an agent can build from, knowing when to show rather than tell.

Iterate in tight loops by reviewing agent output critically, diagnosing why something feels off, and steering the next iteration instead of restarting the process.

Build taste into the system by encoding visual and interaction standards into reusable prompts, components, and guidelines so quality compounds across the team.

Pressure-test your ideas continuously and refine them through targeted collaboration and user research.

Partner with engineering, product management, and design peers on both long-term strategy and short-term execution to align on goals.

Care about the full user journey, from the moment a candidate receives an invite through the interviewer's final read-out, ensuring a coherent experience.

Manage competing priorities and act decisively in the face of ambiguity, maintaining momentum without sacrificing quality.

Contribute to the design and product culture at HackerRank, including how the team adopts and uses agents to raise the bar for everyone.

Champion a mindset where design and engineering collaborate with AI as a partner, using it to augment human creativity and decision-making.

Promote consistency across the product by maintaining living documentation, component libraries, and pattern libraries that evolve with the product.

Requirements

You must have 5+ years of hands-on industry experience as a product designer, with at least 3 years on fast-moving enterprise or consumer products.

You must demonstrate hands-on fluency with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar, and you can show real work you have built by directing agents.

Your portfolio must demonstrate excellent visual, UI, and interaction design, ideally including interactive or in-code work, not just static screens.

You must be comfortable with ambiguity, working independently or across many stakeholders, and balancing established design standards with new paradigms.

You must have a proven ability to ship high-quality products in a self-directed manner without constant supervision.

You must understand how to translate abstract design concepts into concrete implementation details that engineering teams can execute.

You must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, articulating design rationale clearly and persuasively.

You must be meticulous and detail-oriented, ensuring that designs are coherent, usable, and aligned with user needs and business goals.

Nice to have

Experience designing live, real-time, or high-stakes collaborative experiences that involve multiple participants.

The ability to build front-end code yourself and work directly in code, not only by directing agents, to accelerate iteration and validation.

Experience adopting new tools fast and staying ahead of a monthly-changing agent landscape, treating that change as an advantage rather than a threat.

Experience creating design systems, components, or guidelines that other designers and engineers build against to ensure consistency and efficiency.

Practical notes

This is a full-time position based in a hybrid model in Bangalore, India.

Travel is not expected as part of the core responsibilities.
