About the role
You will join the MALTA team to build the core infrastructure and frameworks that power all Grab mobile applications. Your work focuses on increasing developer productivity while ensuring the stability, security, and performance of the mobile ecosystem. In this capacity, you will own the definition and execution of mobile infrastructure initiatives that directly impact the efficiency of multiple engineering teams. You will be responsible for transforming high level product goals into robust, scalable, and maintainable mobile frameworks that can withstand the demands of a global marketplace. This role requires a proactive mindset to identify bottlenecks in the current tooling and architect solutions that eliminate friction for developers. You will act as a technical leader, guiding best practices and ensuring that the mobile development lifecycle is both sustainable and scalable.

What you'll do
- Architect and evolve the Android SDK ecosystem to enable partners to build with speed and confidence.
- Conduct in-depth technical investigations to isolate root causes of complex stability and performance issues.
- Author precise and accessible documentation that captures architectural decisions and integration workflows for internal teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate ambiguous product requirements into clear technical specifications.
- Implement reusable mobile components and libraries that standardize functionality across all Grab applications.
- Orchestrate the end to end delivery of mobile projects, coordinating design, implementation, and production rollout.
- Optimize the mobile CI pipelines to reduce build times and improve the reliability of software releases.
- Evaluate and integrate new tools and frameworks to enhance the developer experience and maintain a competitive edge.
- Mentor junior engineers on mobile development principles, code quality, and effective problem solving strategies.
- Drive the adoption of security best practices to ensure that mobile assets and user data are protected at all times.
- Partner with the design and product teams to ensure that the implemented solutions align with user expectations and business objectives.
- Lead code reviews and technical design sessions to uphold high standards of software craftsmanship across the organization.
- Monitor the performance of released features and collaborate with data teams to drive improvements based on real world usage.
- Act as the primary technical contact for the MALTA team, providing guidance and support for all mobile related initiatives.
Requirements
- Must possess a minimum of 4 to 5 years of professional experience in Android development with a portfolio of published applications that demonstrate real world usage.
- Must exhibit expert level proficiency in Kotlin, including a deep understanding of the Android SDK and its various components.
- Must have hands on experience with Git for version control and Jenkins for continuous integration in production environments.
- Must demonstrate a strong understanding of mobile design patterns, usability principles, performance optimization techniques, and security fundamentals.
- Must be capable of working effectively within an Agile framework, participating actively in sprint planning, standups, and iterative development cycles.
- Must possess deep knowledge of SOLID principles and mobile architecture patterns to guide the design of scalable systems.
- Must be able to clearly document technical solutions and present complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Must be based onsite in the Singapore office to ensure seamless collaboration with the distributed team.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working with Flutter to contribute to cross platform initiatives when required.
- Familiarity with the Bazel build system to streamline builds and improve dependency management.
