About the role
GovSignals is building the primary AI infrastructure for government contracting to accelerate procurement and mission delivery. The role centers on owning the deployment and data systems that power operations across FedRAMP High and IL5 environments. You will architect and maintain the foundational platforms that allow classified and unclassified data to flow securely between government systems and commercial cloud providers. The position requires deep collaboration with security, compliance, and mission engineering teams to ensure infrastructure meets the highest standards for reliability and control. You will be responsible for designing systems where AI agents act as first class operators within automated pipelines. This role is critical to transforming how the public sector adopts private sector innovation under strict regulatory constraints. Success in this position means enabling faster, more secure, and auditable delivery of mission critical capabilities to defense and intelligence customers.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and operate ingestion, storage, and search pipelines that process over 5,000 government data sources using Postgres and S3 or R2 object storage.
- Build and maintain deployment workflows across commercial SaaS, AWS GovCloud, and IL5 environments using custom tooling and forks of Supabase and Trigger.dev.
- Implement automated security and compliance controls, including CVE remediation tracking and auditable CI/CD pipelines that satisfy government audit requirements.
- Construct infrastructure where AI agents serve as primary users, emphasizing automated remediation, self healing systems, and deployment tooling that reduces manual intervention.
- Partner closely with the deployment team to integrate mission critical data sets for large scale enterprise customers while maintaining strict security boundaries.
- Optimize data models and Postgres internals to handle complex government contracting schemas and ensure performant query patterns at scale.
- Manage Kubernetes clusters and Cloudflare Workers to deliver resilient, low latency platforms that meet the needs of distributed government sites.
- Leverage TypeScript backend services to create reliable APIs that connect legacy government systems with modern AI driven workflows.
- Instrument systems using OpenTelemetry and monitoring tools to provide clear operational visibility into performance and security incidents.
- Contribute to open source platform projects where appropriate, strengthening the broader ecosystem of government technology infrastructure.
- Define and execute migrations and throughput improvements that address significant scale challenges without disrupting live missions.
- Establish best practices for using Chainguard and other secure tooling to harden container images and reduce attack surfaces.
- Collaborate with procurement and contracting teams to ensure technical solutions align with evolving federal regulations and policies.
- Mentor junior engineers on platform thinking, reliability, and the unique constraints of working in regulated government environments.
Requirements
- Hold 5 or more years of professional experience in backend, platform, or infrastructure engineering focused on scalable systems.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of building infrastructure that supports multiple engineering teams across different deployment targets.
- Show deep expertise in data modeling, Postgres internals, Kubernetes orchestration, and TypeScript backend services.
- Have managed systems through significant scale, including complex migrations, performance bottlenecks, and throughput challenges.
- Apply a security first approach to infrastructure design, ensuring that compliance and auditability are considered from the earliest design decisions.
- Use AI tools in daily development to enhance productivity, automate repetitive tasks, and improve code quality.
- Maintain U.S. citizenship or U.S. person status due to the nature of government contracts and the handling of sensitive data.
- Commit to working in hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days in the New York office located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
- Be prepared to engage in a hiring process that includes an introductory call, a technical interview conducted without AI tools, meetings with co founders, and a one day work trial.
