About the role
Join GOAT Group's Consumer team as a Senior Full Stack Engineer, focusing on backend architecture and end-to-end feature development. You will own the technical strategy and execution for critical customer-facing features, shaping the backend roadmap and technical direction with minimal oversight. You will manage complex projects from inception to production, ensuring high-quality delivery while optimizing for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency. The role emphasizes collaboration across engineering, product, and design to build scalable solutions that meet real-world demands. You will leverage modern AI coding assistants such as Claude or Codex to accelerate development and enhance team productivity. Success in this role means taking ownership of the complete development lifecycle and ensuring production health remains a top priority.

What you'll do
- Design and implement full stack architecture for critical customer-facing features, taking ownership of the backend roadmap and technical direction.
- Lead the complete development lifecycle for new features, from initial technical strategy to delivering well-tested and performant code.
- Enhance existing systems for improved performance, reliability, and cost efficiency, prioritizing production health.
- Act as a technical mentor, establishing engineering standards, guiding design discussions, and supporting team members.
- Manage complex technical projects, developing efficient plans and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality features.
- Propose and implement code improvements while minimizing risk, actively identifying and resolving bugs and performance issues.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and design teams to align technical solutions with business objectives.
- Utilize AI coding assistants like Claude or Codex to boost development speed for yourself and the team.
- Own the technical decisions required for scaling applications to handle millions of users globally.
- Drive initiatives that improve developer experience and streamline the engineering workflow.
- Implement monitoring and observability strategies to ensure system reliability and quick issue resolution.
- Refactor legacy components to modernize the codebase and reduce technical debt over time.
- Evaluate new technologies and frameworks, conducting proof-of-concept work when necessary.
- Partner with data teams to optimize data pipelines and ensure efficient information flow across systems.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years in software engineering, with deep expertise in backend and distributed systems, and experience building high-traffic web applications.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in feature execution and delivery, serving as a trusted technical lead.
- Strong command of backend languages such as Go, Python, or Ruby, and their associated frameworks.
- Proficient frontend development skills using React, TypeScript, Next.js, Node.js, or similar modern web technologies.
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and scaling distributed systems capable of handling substantial real-world traffic.
- Familiarity and practical application of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Codex, Copilot) to enhance team productivity.
- A generalist engineering approach with deep knowledge in at least one specialized area like API design, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or infrastructure.
- A proactive mindset, taking initiative to identify and solve problems without direct instruction.
- Ability to navigate uncertainty, manage disagreements constructively, and build consensus among teams with differing priorities.
- Experience working with high-traffic consumer applications in production environments.
- Understanding of modern web services, cloud-native architectures, and their associated design patterns and trade-offs.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable code and perform code reviews at scale.
- Experience with testing frameworks and ensuring high test coverage for critical systems.

Practical notes
Tier 1 (e.g., California, New York, Washington, Illinois): $146,800 - $183,400 USD
Tier 2 (Mid-cost U.S. markets): $132,200 - $165,200 USD
Tier 3 (All other U: locations): $124,800 - $156,000 USD
The final salary will be determined by factors including primary work location, role level, candidate skills, experience, market demands, and internal equity.
