Senior Software Engineer I
Job description
About the role
You will lead backend architecture and system design, proactively proposing and driving new systems that support critical customer facing features. You will take point on initiatives, owning the backend roadmap, driving technical decisions, and coordinating cross-functional delivery. You will optimize existing systems for performance, reliability, and cost while treating production health as a first-class priority. You will serve as the team's technical anchor by setting engineering standards, leading design reviews, and unblocking teammates. You will manage technical roadmap and problems of significantly larger scope, from formulating an efficient game plan to delivering stable, well-tested features on time. You will make technical recommendations that improve the codebase while minimizing risk and identify and fix bugs and performance bottlenecks. You will coordinate and communicate seamlessly across engineering, product, and design teams to ensure alignment. You will leverage AI coding tools such as Claude, Codex, and others to accelerate development velocity for yourself and the team.
Key facts
What you'll do
Lead backend architecture and system design, proactively proposing and driving new systems that support critical customer facing features.
Take point on initiatives, owning the backend roadmap, driving technical decisions, and coordinating cross-functional delivery.
Optimize existing systems for performance, reliability, and cost. You treat production health as a first-class priority, not an afterthought.
Serve as the team's technical anchor by setting engineering standards, leading design reviews, and unblocking teammates.
Manage technical roadmap and problems of significantly larger scope, from formulating an efficient game plan to delivering stable, well-tested features on time.
Make technical recommendations that improve the codebase while minimizing risk; identify and fix (or ideally prevent) bugs and performance bottlenecks.
Coordinate and communicate seamlessly across engineering, product, and design teams.
Leverage AI coding tools such as Claude, Codex, and others to accelerate development velocity for yourself and the team.
Own the implementation of critical customer-facing features end-to-end in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
Break down complex problems into manageable technical tasks and guide their execution through the full software development lifecycle.
Champion best practices for testing, observability, and deployment to ensure robust and maintainable systems.
Drive improvements in scalability and reliability for high-traffic services while collaborating closely with infrastructure and platform teams.
Mentor and provide technical leadership to more junior engineers, helping them grow their skills and confidence.
Evaluate emerging tools and frameworks, conducting proof-of-concept work to determine their applicability and value to our technology stack.
Requirements

Proven track record of leading a team to execute and ship features, you have been the tech lead others rely on.
Strong proficiency in Go, Python, Ruby, or similar backend languages/frameworks.
Hands-on experience designing, building, and scaling distributed systems that handle real-world traffic at scale.
Proficient with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, Codex, Copilot, and others, and a believer in using them to multiply team output.
A T-shaped engineer / generalist mindset with deep expertise in at least one domain such as API design, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or infrastructure.
A proactive ownership mentality, you do not wait for permission to improve things; you identify problems, propose solutions, and execute.
Comfortable navigating ambiguity, handling conflict constructively, and building consensus across teams with competing priorities.
Familiarity with the technologies, tradeoffs, and design patterns emerging in modern web services and cloud-native architectures.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
