As a Mechanical Engineer, you will own the mechanical systems design and analysis that ensures regulatory compliance for safety and performance on a state-of-the-art enrichment facility. You will collaborate with structural, architectural, electrical, and chemical engineers to develop integrated mechanical solutions while wearing multiple hats to support vendor activity and troubleshooting. This role offers the opportunity to solve complex problems at scale, manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment, and bring modern enrichment facilities online from concept through commissioning. You will be a key contributor to delivering reliable, low-cost nuclear fuel that enables the nuclear renaissance currently underway.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Own the design and analysis of mechanical systems including HVAC, central plant equipment such as chillers, boilers, and heat exchangers, as well as distribution sizing for ductwork and piping.
- Prepare design packages up to Permit level using Revit to ensure deliverables are ready for review and approval.
- Collaborate with structural, architectural, electrical, and chemical engineers to design and integrate safe and performant mechanical solutions for the enrichment facility.
- Prepare and review code-compliant designs, create comprehensive drawing sets in Revit and AutoCAD, and produce calculations, specifications, and technical reports for design validation.
- Contribute to project concept development, feasibility studies, and scope definition while delivering mechanical solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule goals.
- Support vendor activities, including technical coordination and troubleshooting, to resolve design or installation issues as they arise.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks to meet aggressive timelines without compromising quality.
- Apply first-principles engineering approaches to optimize system performance, reliability, and constructability for nuclear fuel production facilities.
- Ensure all mechanical designs align with local, state, and federal regulations, maintaining rigorous standards for safety and compliance.
- Leverage computational fluids knowledge (CFD) when applicable to validate system performance and improve design accuracy.
- Develop custom details to support unique facility design conditions, working closely with consultants and internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to large-scale, mission-critical construction projects from design through commissioning, ensuring successful facility rollout.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a similar discipline as the foundational qualification for this role.
- Bring a minimum of 8+ years of industry experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in mechanical design and analysis.
- Possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license, as this is a required credential for the position.
- Have hands-on experience working with HVAC systems, including design, sizing, and integration into facility workflows.
- Demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam for design development, documentation, and markups.
- Show the ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to meet project deadlines and operational needs.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance in all aspects of mechanical design.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, contractors, and project managers, to ensure alignment and execution.
- Apply problem-solving skills to overcome technical challenges in a nuclear environment where precision and reliability are critical.
